Joani Schofield It was my pleasure! Wow, that is great exposure for an artist, two magazines with a huge readership.

Kristen S this is a painting?! these are the crucial techniques that I have been missing in my work.. trees are very difficult to keep organic, and their foliage is even harder to create in sharp detail like this artist.

Joani Schofield Yeah, I couldn't believe it, you should google his name and look at other works, incredible!

watercolors on vellum

Natalie Ford Why would anyone paint in watercolours on calf hide (vellum)? Nice painting though but wouldn't paper be less cruel?

Profile picture of Joani Schofield

Joani Schofield if you follow the link it doesn't actually say vellum as a material used, it says "graphite, tape, resin", also, most modern vellum is not made from animal skins. Traditional vellum can be made from any sort of animal skin, not just calf.

Profile picture of Corinne Lee-Cooke

Corinne Lee-Cooke Vellum can be any skin not just cows (created from the by product of the meat industry - like leather). Calf vellum is quite difficult to come by and is actually from still born animals. As Joani mentioned most people use a synthetic vellum which is actually like a tracing paper.

Profile picture of Corinne Lee-Cooke

Corinne Lee-Cooke i'd have a problem with it if the animals were killed just for vellum but I wear leather so see no distinction.

Joani Schofield Exactly Corinne, excellent points!
