Pam Myers How do you remove the lid off an antique seltzer bottle? I just purchased one from 1942 and I can not remove the lid to clean the bottle.
octobermoon I would try holding the metal cap under hot hot hot running water for about two minutes and then try to twist it off using one of those rubber gripper pads if you have it. (That always works for me with stuck pickle jars, etc.) If it doesn't work I would try using some LIquid Wrench which is great for rusty bolts, etc. I would check the directions to see if it could damage the metal finish though.
Pam Myers I actually tried that. The lid spins easily, but will not come off. I've tried pulling it, and am afraid I'll break the pumping device. :(
octobermoon Okay, my husband has one right here in the office and I took it apart! That cap is actually two pieces. There is a threaded band that fits over the neck of the bottle and then the pump mechanism with the glass tube attached screws into it. If you don't hold onto the lower lip it will just spin around. Try that and let me know!
