Tracy Bosworth just did some research and it turns out it *was* a sarcastic sign, part of a broader campaign highlighting various gay people who have made a significant contributions to progress. hehe, wonder if the lady in this photo is getting really narked with everyone thinking she is a bigot when she was trying to be the opposite! maybe the sign was just a liiiitle too clever for its own good :)
Elena Howells I read it as sarcasm right from the beginning (but I also just listened to a Radio Lab Short about Alan Turing, so I already knew how amazing he was). Go you, lady with the sign!
Paul Hamilton The novel Cyrptonomicon by Neal Stephenson features Alan Turing as a character and goes into both his contributions to cryptology and his homosexuality. Plus it's a cool (if dense) techno-thriller to boot.
