Franny Rose When I was growing up, we used to darn our socks. We used a light bulb to it.

Gina Harvell They are great collector items and make good bowl fillers!

Profile picture of Lynda Hall

Lynda Hall Franny, never heard of using light bulbs! I'm afraid darning is perhaps a lost art these days. They do make great bowl fillers. I have mine hanging on an old board that has holes drilled in it.

Franny Rose We might have been too poor to own a darner, I suppose. My mother's favorite saying was "Necessity is the mother of invention." Instead of running out and buying a darner we made do with what we could find around the house.

Lynda Hall I think your mom was a wise woman, indeed! And, I think we might have been on the same page. It wasn't until I got older that I even knew what a darner was. But, learned to use one when my DH needed sock repairs. To bad I didn't know about the light bulb!!!
