Heather We are, too. We're escaping for a few months to rural Canada - no netflix, no cable tv. Its gonna be awesome! (Said in total sincerity! I can't wait until we leave! We'll be staying right on the Bay of Fundy, and its going to be beautiful.)

If a child is upset or overwhelmed and needs a calming exercise, elevator breathing is a great technique to use. Have them close their eyes and imagine their body is like a tall building and the inhalation of the breath is like an elevator rising to the top. As they exhale, gently describe the elevator going all the way down again.

The Fingers and Yarn Etsy store fun (and soft) way to teach kids about the solar system.A collection of 10 knit and stuffed spheres featuring each planet and the Sun. These toys are a great way to spark interest in space for kids… or a wonderful gift for your space-loving friends. Each is colorfully embroidered with its initials for reference. The colors used are as accurate as possible.

Learn letters by making them. I always suggest parents start with the letters in their child's name . Which letters did your child learn first?

Love this for the summer: Mom puts together lists under five different categories - Oh the Food we will Eat, Oh the Service that can be Done, Oh the Places we will Go, Oh the Crafts we will Make, and Oh the Activities we will Do; every Sunday, as a family, they plan out the week w/activities from the lists.

Clutter Jail! Clutter Jail. If the kids leave it out, it goes in the clutter jail and they have to draw a card out of the community chest and complete the task to get their stuff back. Free printables!

healing basket.... to teach children about healing and *first aid* ~ Tweezers (Useful for removing splinters.) ~ Nail clippers (For clipping torn nails or hangnails.) ~ Bandages (I try to keep most cuts uncovered and clean, and then apply salve once they scab over – per Romm. I know this is not always possible with little ones, but be sure to let it ‘air out’ when you can.) ~ Arnica gel (We use this for almost every bump – just the ritual of getting the gel is sometimes calming enough in and of itself. I usually reapply to bruises that turn purple – sometimes the next day too.) ~ Apis Mell (I’d had huge swelling reactions to bee stings before I used this homeopathic medicine. I need to take it every five minutes after a sting until I no longer feel the throbbing histamine response. Every body is different! Please seek medical attention if in doubt, responses can be serious.) ~ Lavender essential oil (This is one of the few essential oils that can be used ‘neat’ – directly on the skin, however, you may want to dilute in olive oil or another carrier for your little one. Use three drops per ounce of oil. It is great for headache, insect bites, and warm bubble baths! We also use it in a spray bottle mixed with water and vinegar for an all-purpose cleaner.) ~ Hot water bottle (Great for bellyaches or getting cozy in bed – especially with a wool cover!) ~ Ice pack (The kindergarten teacher kept smooth glass ‘healing crystals’ in the freezer for owies. Applying cold can numb pain and promote blood flow to speed healing.) ~ Salve* ~ Herbal teas* ~ Tinctures* ~ Mullein ear oil* ~ Healing friend finger puppet*

This would be so easy. Embroidery hoops, colored cellophane, and something to hang it by. This would be cool with different colored paper so the kids could "mix' the colors and view through them.
