The questions Gayle Gifford poses shouldn't be newsworthy to boards (though, sadly, I suspect many would be for too many governing bodies). But whether that is the case, or whether the book acts as a reminder where our priorities should lie, this is a powerful little board resource. Quick read, too. Could ask your members to read and respond, or choose a question (or two) as a starting point for more meaningful discussions.

Joy Clarke I read this and implemented it at the nonprofit I work for, www.missionstl.org. We used their matrix map tool to get an accurate picture of the mission impact vs. cost for each of the activities we're doing, presented it at a Board meeting, and made decisions about next steps for each activity accordingly. It was a great exercise - highly recommend!
Marion Conway Joy - Thanks so much for sharing your experience. This book does get rave reviews.
