Currently on display through March 11 at the Hakone Open Air Museum is Motoi Yamamoto‘s sculpture, “Forest of Beyond.” The artist, who is well known for creating large-scale sculptures, especially mazes, out of salt, has created a massively intricate installation that resembles the far-reaching roots of a tree.

MoMA: Design and the Elastic Mind - Rules of Six -- Through a large wall relief, an algorithm running live in the gallery, and images of nanostructures, the project presents an experiment in material formation tied to the potential of six-sided symmetries common to the molecular lattices of a large range of mateirals. The structures presented are not carved or composed; they have grown thorugh simple rules and interactions that re much like the ones molecules follow in the lab.
