Ronson is the slightly gonzo science journalist who wrote Men Who Stare At Goats (which became a movie), and now he's back with a scathing, intelligently-written story about what he calls "the madness industry."

Profile picture of Malia Malo

Malia Malo Hey, another Malia! (: Also, veg all the way. I've been so much happier and healthier since I made the switch 7 months ago. I researched it heavily beforehand, because I didn't want to go into something not knowing what it was all about or what I was getting myself into. It helped strengthen my reasons for switching, and made them further stable for explanation to questioners. I wouldn't say you "NEED" meat to survive, you just need the right amount of nutrients that are found within meats. But those same nutrients can be found from other sources, just in different amounts, which requires attention so that your body is getting an even balance of all necessary nutrients, no matter the source.

Malia Waits im still not 100% veg yet. BUT MOST of my meals are veg. friendly. we eat hardly any meat anymore. i am getting closer to making the switch fully. I have done much research, and this past year i have physically been doing my own research. Im not against meat, i just dont appreciate the way the animals are being treated in factory farms..this is my quiet protest, with a big bang. every time you buy something, you are voting..this is my stand, and my vote. ps..HELLO MALIA!! *waves from arizona*

Malia Waits ps, the one thing that i can find that is different, between meats and iron rich foods is this: There are two forms of dietary iron: heme and nonheme. Heme iron is derived from hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that delivers oxygen to cells. Heme iron is found in animal foods that originally contained hemoglobin, such as red meats, fish, and poultry. Iron in plant foods such as lentils and beans is arranged in a chemical structure called nonheme iron [9]. This is the form of iron added to iron-enriched and iron-fortified foods. Heme iron is absorbed better than nonheme iron, but most dietary iron is nonheme iron [8]. A variety of heme and nonheme sources of iron are listed in Tables 1 and 2. found here: http://ods.od.nih.gov/... and other sources... im no expert, and i dont claim to be..im just learning like everyone else. im doing the best i can. but this is what i feel is right. I also get a lot of my info from Veg news magazine..and get a lot of meal ideas from Vegetarian times magazine. http://www.vegnews.com/ http://www.vegetariant...

Kelsey Winchester One of my favorites. Extremely touching portrayal of what it means to be human, from a dog's eyes. I boo-hooed at the end.
