Tori Highley It's not necessarily that the woman is the beautiful part. The fact that she is seeking to look to the light outside, despite her dark surroundings, is the beautiful part, to me atleast.
Gail Williams A lot of young girls look up to these models in magazines and tv now days. It can cause eatting disorders and makes normal looking young women and girls feel like they have to meet that goal of being extremely thin. I know that for some that is just their body type. But, for a lot it is not and makes them feel like they are not up to snuff. In my above comment I meant to say "meat", not "mean". As far as the photograph, it does look better blowen up larger. I was looking at a very small thumb nail of it. It just goes to show how one person sees one thing and another person see's something completely different.
Laraine Gillen Although i agree with the principal of this conversation, i believe this photo, and the woman in it, to be beautiful. Thin women are beautiful too, just as larger women are. Lets not reverse discriminate.
Becky Koets-Richard I have been a naturally thin woman my whole life. I don't discriminate against thin women. I am 40 years old and have NEVER met a woman who's spine and shoulder blades naturally protrude and stick out like in this photo. I'm sure somewhere, that rare, naturally thin woman exists. However, I have met many, many women who unnaturally deprive their bodies of basic nourishment to achieve this look that is so often portrayed as "normal" in so many advertisements and magazines. I have never been discriminated against for being thin......never. The damage done to so many women and families as a result of these images far exceeds any "discrimination" against thin women. THAT is the reality.
Nikki Pendleton @Laraine Gillen thank you so much. I have been skinny my entire life and being called "disgusting" and "malnourished" is just as upsetting as someone being called fat. I have struggled with it my whole life. I agree that there is a problem with body image among young girls these days, but that doesn't mean that people who are naturally skinnier deserve to be called "depressed anorexics" or referred to in comments beginning with "ick" or "ew". Just because we are skinny doesn't make us disgusting or anorexic, and it doesn't make being called those things any easier. All women are beautiful just the way they are.
