You can sort of see the larval stage of the ladybug turning into an adult ladybug.

Can defoliate a rose in a short period of time, the Japanese beetle. Don't trap these guys, you'll just have more. Fill a jar with soapy water and get out in the early morning and late afternoon, early evening and just drop them into the soapy mess and then flush them. They seem to be cyclical. They are on the comeback in the Pittsburgh area. Getting my beetle juice jar ready! They start in this area late June or early July.

Aphids on rudbeckia. A strong shot of water or find a couple of ladybugs to get rid of these.

This little guy or girl is the larvae of the ladybug. They look like little alligators. Don't smash these. They will turn into ladybugs shortly.

Ladybug eggs on Tansy. Was trying to get rid of this patch of tansy. Very difficult to get rid of it with ladybugs all over it. They don't always come back to the same place to lay their eggs. Tansy was moved to another area! Be careful what you wish for. It may be providing a habitat for a good bug.

A ladybug patrolling the rugosa rose. It is probably looking for aphids a favorite food source.
This is damage from the brown marmorated stink bug on my beloved lemon verbena.
This little guy on top of St. Fiacre can be a real pest. He lives in our rock wall. We do have a gang of ferrel cats that keep the population down, but it takes just one.
This is damage from the four-lined plant bug on common garden sage. The red dot is the nymph. They are a true bug. Two stages, nymph and adult and are gone in about 6 weeks. Only one generation. They like plants in the mint family and that's a lot of herbs.

This is a good caterpillar of a swallowtail butterfly munching on a fennel plant. They also like dill as well.
