Facebook kicked off its roadshow this week to fan fare not unlike a major movie production -- paparazzi, reporters, 500+ investors in a single meeting -- all greeted Mark Zuckerberg clad in a black hoodie and sneakers. The roadshow started in NY yesterday, and moves to Boston today. The stats are compelling -- IPO range of 28 to 35 a share, aiming to raise as much as 13.6 billion. This would value the company at 77 billion to 96 billion. None too shabby.

This is amazing! Huge win Disney, for Marvel, and a great way to jump into the summer movie season ... "The superhero action flick featuring Marvel superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America had the biggest opening weekend of all time in the U.S. and Canada this weekend -- not adjusted for inflation -- grossing a powerful 200.3 million, according to an estimate from distributor Walt Disney Studios ..."

Today's uber-digital college student ... its incredible how much times have changed. We barely had ICQ and Napster when I was in college (oh yah, you know you remember ICQ... :) -- digital today is a totally different experience.

Great infographic. This are good stats.

Facebook's ad value conundrum .. Is 1M on Facebook really more powerful than 2 30-sec commercials during American Idol? Or 6.5 COLOR pages in People magazine? Or - the most unbelievable example - 10 FULL-PAGE ads in the NYTimes?

the Internet in 2015 - pretty interesting.

The rise and flaws of social news.

Compelling new partnership launched today between Coke and Spotify. One brand with a legacy in music which reinforces their emotional core of their marketing strategy - and the other, and new and savvy streaming partner with a proven track record a'la Facebook. This will be great to watch.

"Are we now at the point where the disheveled men on street corners no longer ask for change, but rather developers? Apparently so." ... Pretty funny read from Techcrunch.

Great infographic on how women plug into the business world and where the stats really pan out — bottom line, women are founding businesses and start-ups at 1.5 times the national average, earning more bachelors degrees than their male counterparts, and taking the GMAT at higher rates ever before.

Pretty compelling advertising story when you see something ripe for TV go viral so quickly -- Great job TNT! ..."An ad for the launch of the cable channel TNT promoting the “drama” of its programming had a pretty dramatic debut [becoming the] second most-shared of all time, according to Unruly, a video research firm. The ad, which was released on April 11, has been shared 3 million times. Only “The Force,” the 2011 Super Bowl ad from Volkswagen, has been shared more." (Mashable)

"We live in a kind of digital feudal economy these days. We live on land we don't own, and we provide the masters of the realm (Facebook, Google, etc.) with unlimited free access to our data and behavior, which they monetize for billions of dollars. We get to keep our little plots of digital land for free and are otherwise pretty much at the whim of the feudal masters." ... AdAge OpEd with Patrick Moorhead

A little torn on this one — one side, collusion is generally bad, so a deal which was favorable for Apple and not to other eBook-tailers isn’t value acretive for the industry — but other side, publishers were drowning in the revenue losses of highly discounted eBook prices, and had no power to change it. The “collusion” solved that problem. Now breaking the collusion gets consumers a better deal, but puts power back with Amazon and kills publisher revenue. There must be a better way …

Thank you B for launching the "glow light" - this is a great addition to the Nook e-reader and done in such a sleek way.

Compelling research on women in science and tech released today - the need to get more girls excited about tech/science when they're young and ensure they stick with it is increasing everyday ... "... women who work in STEM fields make about a third more than women in non-STEM jobs. The [White House] council wrote that it's "especially disconcerting" that women make up only 25 percent of the STEM workforce, which is expected to grow by nearly 20 percent over the rest of the decade."

Mobile advertising is way more relevant globally - but can we get there fast enough?

Interesting new report on the onslought of digital, how it affects how we process information, and where libraries can help ... “In a hyper-connected culture, our information diet is as important to our well-being as the food we eat ... librarians can help patrons push back and think about the content they’ve digested... [helping them to consider] what they’ve uncovered before automatically surfing for more data... " - I love libraries.

Sephora is taking over the cosmetics industry one female shopper at a time! With a revamped digital launch today, they’ve integrated Pinterest and Instagram in a way that makes it not only easier to browse and shop, but also easier to share whether I’m in a store our on their website. This is dramatic for the industry. While most cosmetics manufacturers are still grappling with how to get more feet back into department stores - Sephora has "game-changed" the entire “experience”.

This is a great read - and it's why we love Google! ...Larry Page, "It may sound nuts, but I’ve found that it’s easier to make progress on mega-ambitious goals than on less risky projects. Few people are crazy enough to try, and the best people always want to work on the biggest challenges. We've also found that “failed” ambitious projects often yield other dividends ..."

Facebook just launched a counter-suit to Yahoo!'s patent claims of a few weeks back. This is what great internet wars are made of - its a battle of wits down to the wire! Not sure who Yahoo! thought they were dealing with, but its no surprise Facebook shot back with a vengeance.

Daniel Loeb, in his effort to overhaul Yahoo's board and get momentum for his proxy fight, launched ValueYahoo.com at 10:30am this morning as a vehicle to a) inform investors of his proxy proposal and what he hopes to achieve, and b) (in a wonderfully cheeky way) show that he (contrary to Yahoo!) gets the web and knows how to use it. It's damn clever, that's for sure.

NYC just launched a new map app for the city's many (many) (many) tourists ripe with restaurant reviews, search filters, retailer logos, opentable booking capabilities, and subway stations.

Pretty great infographic on where we find and follow news - Oddly enough, more respondents are getting news from combination of desktop + smartphone devices versus smartphone + tablet devices. I imagine if we paired this with growth stats on tablet devices, we could pinpoint when that metric will flip pretty quickly. Great stuff.

Google launched a completely different paywall today -- where payment comes from "completed surveys" versus actually cash ... hard to tell if it will actually work, but def interesting way to provide content access vis-a-vis even smarter data ...

eBay is blazing into the India market in hope the growing contingent of tech-savvy and disposable-income-clad young consumers will increasingly buy more clothes/tech/etc online like their Western counterparts -- the strategy is equipped with PaisaPay, the India equivalent of PayPal. The eCommerce competition in India is getting just as heated as it has in China - with Amazon, Google, Apple, etc all jumping into the fray ...

Great comparison of the NYT and WSJ's digital platforms - I'm a fan of both online publications (and read them religiously on my iPad and Android phone), but would agree the NYT does a heck of a job making their digital presence highly interactive and easy to use. WSJ is a close second ... but does have some way to go ...

JK Rowling may have taken the content-creating half of the publishing world head first into a major digital disruption -- All 7 Harry Potter books went 'online' yesterday, available for purchase directly through the author's site -- not via a major publisher portal, nor an existing e-book store -- but her own site, where 70-80% of the revenue goes straight back to her ... Assuming other major authors can do the same, this has to make the big guys nervous ... (very cool)

The future of digital + education is in tools like this which leverage "app" formats to engage students in short-form quizzes and "games" to build their core english / math / science skills. Hopefully we see more of this coming from major education players (Pearson, McGraw, Houghton Mifflin) sometime soon!

Excellent infographic on who's using Pinterest and why it's relevant to etailers and marketers -- not just stats on Pinterest demographics (yes, we know, +90% female), but also by 'how' us ladies are using it. Pretty useful insight.

The combination of digital and education is interesting - and the more applications of concepts like the "flipped classroom" educators can find to justify more digital in (and out of) the classroom, the better. This is great stuff.
