I think I'll use this for the cover of my book to my boys ...things I want them to know in case I'm gone before I can tell them.

Instead of giving your child birthday cards (which inevitably get lost), write your heartfelt sentiments for special occasions (birthdays, starting school, etc) in a journal...which will be a keepsake when they're grown!
Mommy and Me journal. Write letters back and forth.. leave under pillows...I love this! I can't wait to make this!!!
Not really "crafty", but still a good idea for daily love notes until you can scrapbook them or whatnot! :)
