What I learned? Something in my house that is 90% done gives me 90% satisfaction (which is really great! and a great place to stop at times). Something in my house that is 100% done give me 150% satisfaction. That’s decorating math.

Anna Matthews This is a great idea - I love it! Almost makes me wish I hadn't bought a new shower curtain recently, except I don't think this would work in our bathroom. Jealous!

gallery wall after white paint :: how to make your own painted canvas
5 likes 26 repins
Remember my gallery wall? I confessed on instagram how many nail holes I filled on this wall. 83. EIGHTY-THREE NAIL HOLES. 83 Nail holes on one wall and no one came and arrested me and it took me 6 minutes to fill the holes and about 3 minutes to sand them after the filler stuff dried and I left the ones that I was currently using for the wall so I could rehang everything and I totally get that if you have plaster walls you cannot do this but I have drywall so I have no excuses to be afraid of a eensy weesnsy wittle tiny itsy bitsy nailhole or 83 and I have zero regret for making so many holes to visually see my gallery wall even though yes, I know Young House Love is brilliant and makes a template for their walls because they are smarter than I am patient and pin holes don’t bother me. I cannot stress enough how EASY it is to repair, wait, I refuse to even use the word repair because that sounds like something is broken–it’s so EASY to fill a nail hole. A nail hole doesn’t represent something broken that needs to be repaired, it represents opportunity and just about the lowest entry level risk taking possible in life besides getting no whip on your coffee or something. Please, for the love of all that is lovely don’t be afraid to make a nail hole. Whether you are a templater or not, just make the hole, hang the art, I beg of you. I beg of you.

Ginger Wright This has kinda made my whole damn year. Friggin awesome, I say!!!
Heather Garbe Filling nail holes is easier than putting on mascara... Lol! I just patched three holes in my bathroom that were the size of a baby food jar and it's almost as easy. Oh, and I do all our home repair because hubby is clueless. Ladies, go on youtube, google how to do things, read how to books - it's how I learned to do everything from drywall to hanging ceiling fans to replacing outlets amd installing flooring. When you learn how to do things yourself, it is SO empowering and liberating!!!!! (and cheap! Lol!)
Heather Garbe Btw, if you want to leave the teensiest holes possible, use these: http://www.ooks.com/ you can find them in places like Home Depot, Lowes and Sears (and Amazon.com too), and they're cheap!
Nester Smith YOU are my people!!!
JanMama Thank you for being such an inspiration (going to find the hammer right NOW!).

Amber Lamkhidda I do too! Your blog is one of my favs too!
Kelly V So calming and refreshing
Olivia Weyant beautiful....wish mine looked like that
Bridget Woodlief Soyars Crisp, casual and sophisticated style....perfect!
She invited me in and immediately apologized profusely for what a mess her house was. I expected to see a normal house in normal disarray like how mine looks when I’m about to host a big bunch of people in a couple of hours. I was wrong. Her home was stunning. It was gorgeous. It was glorious. Maybe a little breathtaking. It looked like it was ready for its close up in Southern Living. This girl was so talented. She had a great eye for design and beautiful furniture. I wish I could show you a photo. You would gasp. And she was apologizing for the mess? I made two mental notes that day. 1. Never invite her to my home because if HER house isn’t good enough for her, mine certainly won’t be. 2. Stop apologizing for small imperfections in my home. I had always apologized for my home to protect myself so people wouldn’t think I was a slob or at least they would know that I acknowledge I can be a slob and that I’m not ok with it and that really, I have much higher standards than this and my house does not meet my requirements. It wasn’t until that life changing moment in that unmessy, beautiful home that I realized that all apologies have power. After that day, I made it a point to start controlling my apologies and using them for good and not evil... and this is the beginning of the tag line at Nesting Place : it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
