NYTimes on raising an eReader, the appeal of eBooks for kids. Why must every article include a sentence about replacing a parent reading? I don't see that happening.

Amber StMartin Nothing can compare to a parent's voice when you look at percentage of brain areas that are activated. A Parent's voice will always have a greater result than any electronic voice, no matter how natural they sound.
Silver Also Amber you may have a point, I haven't checked your research, but parents who do read to their children will continue to read to their children in addition to this, and where parents don't read to their children at all or as much as they could, at least the child will have things like this.
Time to change the conversation about young children and technology.

Emily Aderhold Don't these have hazardous metals in them once opened?
Tanya Smith Yes, some electronics contain mercury, among other chemicals. But you could probably google what's in a particular electronic piece before giving it to the kids.
Heather Gulden This is how my fiance became a genius with electronics taking stuff apart and putting it together when he was a kid!
