Lorrie Elliott There is a beach on Kauai that my daughters and I spent hours at, closely examining each grain, as there were teeny tiny whole shells the size of a piece of sand. We took a small amount home and looked with a magnifying glass. It was completely fascinating. Sand is made of shells (whole and broken) as well as silica, so I'm sure that this picture is accurate.
