Ikea hack. Two expedit bookshelves on their side with a cushion on top. Brilliant! No need to buy a bench seat if you can make one from a bookshelf!

Get a blaze crackling faster. Keep wine corks in rubbing alcohol in a sealed jar (stored away frm the fireplace of course). Just before lighting a fire, toss a few in under the kindling.

a 'calm down jar' - shake the jar and the child has to watch the jar until the glitter settles. great alternative to using 'time out' as calm down time. I think I need this for my 13 year old.

I like this idea of having files for kids' papers right by their backpacks.
On Jan. 1st, turn all your hangers backwards. As you wear clothes, turn the hanger around. Anything that is still backwards in say a year- toss- I really like this idea!
