Pattie Baker's Portfolio

Turner Broadcasting. UPS. American Cancer Society. MetLife. Magazines. Pro-bono projects in the arts and city sustainability, and even my very own 501(c)3. Gobs of online content, including four blogs (including two for Cox Enterprises' Kudzu). Plus, lots of smaller clients, such as a packaging company, a printer, and a college. Oh, and my recently-released book. Need a diverse, experienced writer who takes a project (or creates one) and runs with it? Let's talk: sustainablepattie@comcast.net

Fun to see my Vision Board 2012 compared to what I've actually achieved so far this year. Am analyzing where the opportunities are and how I can embrace them with new biz! Let's talk!

Urban Ag 2012 (so far)/metro Atlanta: have been honored to tell many of the stories about our neighbors who grow food, knowledge, and community

Was happy to write about urban ag zoning and about PodPonics in the May/June issue of Urban Farm magazine. Editors/publishers: I have many stories I'd like to write for you--let's talk!

My article about jail gardens and their extraordinary success story in reducing repeat offenders. jjie.org/... Written for the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange website, which is the flagship project of the Center for Sustainable Journalism.

My 2012 Vision Board. (Have you done one yet? It's surprisingly fun and snaps career and life goals into focus). If your company is involved in any aspect of triple-bottom-line sustainability, I'd like to tell your amazing stories to your multiple stakeholders. I'm an "experiential writer" who likes to tour, touch, and talk (and thoroughly research) before delivering on-time, on-target copy/content that meets your business or editorial goals. Conceived, launched, and co-directed (along with my older daughter when she was six) a 501(c)3 non-profit named Hattitudes that gave new hats to more than 4,000 girls with cancer at 6 major children's hospitals nationwide (no, my daughter did not have cancer--this idea came up when I wrote for the American Cancer Society and she said let's do it, so we did). Thanks to Braindance for designing the brochure pro-bono (with my daughter's logo illustration, and my writing).

Click photo to see my blog, FoodShed Planet, about local action/global traction relating to sustainability. More than 10,000 page views per month.

Click photo to see my blog, Sustainable Pattie, about sustainability in metro-Atlanta. This is a relatively new blog and has about 3,000 page views per month.

Hired by Cox Enterprise's Kudzu.com to write its daily blog (featured on its home page), named Hot Off the Vine with Pattie Baker, about home tips and trends. It leaned heavily green and encouraged the hiring of local service pros. Click photo to see it.

This brochure about bar codes encouraged UPS business customers to custom-create ones integrated with UPS systems. Believe me, this project screamed "boring" when it started, and ended up being a terrific example of what fresh thinking can do to liven up a marketing communications approach and achieve desired objectives. Big thanks to Rick Grimsley and Edward Jett at Deep Design and the terrific photographer, Jerry Burns, and especially to my boss at the time, Amy Rubin, who let me run with it.

Brochure for a packaging manufacturer that specializes in round packaging. (I asked if they did any other type, and they said, "Well, sometimes oval.")

Wrote entire "section" of USA TODAY International as a global sales piece for the USA TODAY International sales team (gosh, Tom Bates, we've had fun, haven't we?)

This is from that women's college campaign that I love so much. The concept revolved around the idea of "I want more" to highlight the psychographic of those who choose these high-performing schools (the stats of what becomes of girls who go to women's colleges will blow your mind). I had to channel my inner 16-year-old for this project.

Wrote brochure and outdoor materials for TNT Classics (I'll add photos from the brochure--it's really beautiful)

Conceived and wrote direct mail campaign for an auto maintenance and repair enterprise (one of a gazillion projects I did for Janet Reed and Moira Shanahan at Newsletters Plus/Braindance/Cerebrate)

Conceived, project-managed and wrote trade show materials (for a show in Vegas) for product launch of MetLife pension and annuity product

Wrote executive conference invitation for CNN

Wrote brochure for Turner South

Developed editorial outlines and wrote prostate cancer newsletter for five years for The American Cancer Society. Required me interviewing numerous doctors and scientists, as well as celebrities and top executives diagnosed with prostate cancer. Need someone to interview high-level people? I'm your writer.

Conceived, project-managed, and wrote product launch materials for MetLife (I repurposed old movie tins from a salvage yard for this--and this was years before I started focusing on sustainability!) (Please keep in mind that I had to talk an insurance company executive into this campaign, and I was 23 years old at the time!) (Big fat shout-out to Michel Bergeron, an outstanding designer with whom I had the pleasure to work on numerous projects)

Wrote welcome kit for UPS Preferred Customers

Conceived, wrote and project- managed the kick-off communications piece (a really cool brochure that was given out at an event--I'll get photos of the inside) for the UPS Olympic Games sponsorship (the inside line is "UPS is on your team" and included one of those collectors' pins). (Was told it could not be done--did it in 8 days from concept to delivery, including legal approval!) (Could only have done this in that timeframe with the extraordinary design support of Lisa Reynolds)

Served as marketing chair at the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce's Business Volunteers for the Arts; conceived and wrote this overview piece pro bono; managed communications materials for Arts Alive one year (this is when I met and worked with Beverly Losman, Moira Shanahan, and Alex Orfinger--outstanding people who've played a really big role in my life, in ways they don't even realize)

Article for a Turner Broadcasting publication to high-end national advertisers featuring TBS/TNT programming. Wrote 5 issues/12 articles each; required me interviewing top executives and artists in the entertainment industry (plus chefs!)
