Wanted to pin this pic from Facebook to Pinterest. Not possible. The Zuck wants you to share all your stuff with him, but it obviously is a one-way-street. Not that it really is their stuff. The pic in question is a PR shot of one-star-chef Léa Linster and myself (yes, sorry - I was shamelessly plugging my books again).
While I do not own the rights, I have the permission to use the pic for book PR purposes. I have the hi res on my Mac somewhere. But it was easier to google it and then pin it from my publishers Facebook page. Well, turns out it wasn't easy. It wasn't even possible. On Foursquare there is an Overshare medal for people who check in too often. Maybe there should be an Undershare badge for The Zuck.
So. We move our content to Facebook and then we cannot link/convert/pin it to other services. I know this is old news to most of you. It is old news to me, too. But the human mind is a repression machine and the last bunch of lolcatz pics made me forget how seriously fucked up this content distribution model is. Content concentration model, more like. Their whole IPO is based on sucking up your thoughts, hope, deeds, creeds and baby pics with a Hoover the size of a fucking planet and not giving it back. Ever.
This Pinterest thing just exemplifies that. No more. no less.
