Pinterest's Terms of Use prohibit its members from posting copyrighted material without the copyright holder's permission. That puts the responsibility on you to find the ORIGINAL source and make sure it is not copyrighted. If it is from Google Images I wouldn't pin it. That is full of copyrighted images and clipart and you won't be able to determine the original source. If you click on the above picture it will take you to the full article. You can read what happened to one website. That website paid $4000 in damages for a $10 stock photo they had used without permission, even though they removed the photo promptly after receiving a takedown notice. In any case... never remove the link to the ORIGINAL SOURCE when posting a picture anywhere.I see this happening on LOTS of blogs. The pinterest link code is removed AND also the coding attached to the photo. That is just wrong! Don't take the credit for someone else's work.

I am in the process of removing EVERY Pin that links back to Google.com. The "pinned by user" is another giveaway that it's not linking to the original source. (You can tell my the notation right under the picture,) I have some of them but they are actually my own pictures. I am not sure about flicker, com, fffound, com, and some of the other photo sharing Pins. Some of them may not link back to the original source.

Thanks Kara for suggesting to watermark all of our pictures. That works to put a stamp on our work... but my main concern is that many pins and repins are infringing on the copyright of others. True, if it is on the web it can be copied... but it sounds like you can still be sued for republishing something that is copyrighted. I am not trying to give legal advice since I am not a lawyer. Well, this is all scaring the heck out of me. I think I will take down all my pins and just forget the whole thing. I never REALLY have seen the wonderment of pinning, anyway. If someone sued me for $4000., I would have to sell my home. WAAAAAY too scary for me.

Watermark pics help. If it's online, it's public domain. That how the law is now and until it's rewritten or revised, it means if you put it online you have NO CONTROL over who has it, shares it or uses it. That's why you need to watermark watermark watermark.
