Jonna Neldberg
her figure may not be what is typically thought of as sexy.... but she is very beautiful
Sarah Oakes
The media tells us that normal is not sexy. It is clear for the photo that she is comfortable with her body. If you don't think that is beautiful, maybe you should ask yourself why?
Jonna Neldberg
i was saying she is beautiful! somebody commented the word "fat" & i was responding to that. i personally have found that people find curves more appealing!
Michelle Shepard
She is very Beautiful and even more so because of her confidence...Thank You MiLady for doing this....I hope it help ME look past my curves and see the REAL me...
Shirley Williams
She is beautiful. And since we all agree (or most of us) why are we all obsessed with our appearance? Just food for thought. We have been lied to by the cosmetics industry, by the fashion industry, and by Hollywood......and we BOUGHT the lies. Sad.
Maria Klein
How beautiful a bigger woman can be! Thank you for these postings. Let's celebrate all things beautiful!
Mariana Martinez
She is "real" in the sense that she is not as tiny as a straight size model. However, she is still a model for a reason: because she is considered a more beautiful "specimen", including her curves being in proportion, having breasts and a discernible waist.
This woman's beauty is certainly to be appreciated, but it shouldn't be an excuse to slam thin women or have larger women compare their own "realness" to hers. It's a great photo of a beautiful woman. Can't it just be that?
Barbara Redd
Let us celebrate the beauty of who we are! Most of us have hips and curves, I know I do! The unrealistic goal of rail thinness has sent many a woman, girl, boy, and man over into the world of anorexia and other unhealthy eating conditions. I SALUTE the artist and his prose...SALUTE....
Melissa McDuffy
Thank you Marina Martinez you are right. I am a thin woman and beautiful. God made me this way. I have curves also. So everyone should just stop slandering thin women and larger proportioned ones as well. Healthy is beautiful so take care of yourself.
Keeah McKlveen
I'm not at all saying anything bad about anyone slim or healthy. However, I do think that most models are accepted at the super thin weight. They are even seen starving themselves to stay a certain weight. To see this picture of a model that is of a more realistic weight without airbrushing is refreshing and real. You see her stomach rolls for heavens sake. Which most women have. I can view this picture and not hate myself, which is what happens when you see a Victoria's Secret model. Which is where you get these girls, and boys starving themselves to look like them.
Sherri Joiner
She is beautiful. We are not all born "Cindy Crawford"............Diversity......It is what makes the world go round. Apparently, she is completely comfortable with herself, so why can't the person, who commented "fat" be? Maybe because they have issues that go way deeper and want someone else to feel as negative and hurt as much as they do. Again, she is beautiful and I am proud for her...
Dana Dudgeon
She's NOT "fat". She's a healthy weight for HER. Not everyone is a size two at their healthy weight. Just because she isn't tiny doesn't mean she's fat or unhealthy, or that shes only "fat" because she chooses to be. She is beautiful because she is healthy and confident, and because she does not starve and work herself nearly to death trying to look like some pencil thin "model" of beauty...
Liana Campbell
I'm tired of seeing women described as "real" women. In my eyes, a fake woman is one who has had surgery to enhance her body in ways it was not naturally. So by that definition, most women are "real". I'm just naturally a small size. I don't have her sexy curves. But am I not as "real" as this beautiful woman? If we all stopped arguing about whose size is "real" & sexiest we just might overcome this...
Lisa Sulack
I think she is gorgeous!! And kudos for having the "vagina" to do something like this! Amen sista, not all of us want to be sticks!! :)
Nikki Shubert
This woman is just as beautiful as any other woman who is confident and loves her body. Being obese is not healthy nor is being under weight. "real" women are any women with a vagina, what makes a person healthy and beautiful is their inner beauty shining through and their outer beauty reflecting it.
Sandra LeBlanc Hawkins
I know I would never be able to do that. But, Lisa you are right you have to be confident in with your own body to do someting like this.
Melissa Conklin
I LIKE THIS BECAUSE THIS IS NOT USUALLY WHAT YOU SEE IN AN AD OR MAGAZINE AS PRETTY BUT WE SEE SKINNY EVERY DAY! I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE LIKE MY THREE DAUGHTERS .. TO NOT BE PRESSURED TO BE A SKINNY TOOTHPICK AND THAT IT IS OK AND BEAUTIFUL TO BE YOURSELF CURVES AND ALL! MEN LOVE ALL GIRLS. A REAL MAN WOULD NEVER CALL A WOMAN FAT.. MEN WHO JUDGE HER ARE SHALLOW AND CLOSE MINDED AND THEY COULD NEVER GET A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN LIKE HER! :)
Annie Heineck
Why is society still conversing about weight, we haven't got past that yet!?!?! ( Rhetorically stated) As the song lyrics said.. " I'm moving on"!! :)
Lisa Sulack
Manfred, I totally agree, Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, and beauty is in character. :) Thank you.
Rodrigo Borges
She is fat.
Eating too much is not something that should be praised.
That is just an excuse for laziness.
Vitória Neves
I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree w/ most of you. These curves reflect someone who doesn't exercise and who eats too much, someone who doesn't care about herself. It reflects an unhealthy lifestyle and is, in my point of view, unatrractive. By the way, I exercise and I´m careful w/ what I eat. Needless to say that I'm thin. Does this now mean, according to your comments, that I´m not real?!
Valerie Ferguson
How is everyone determining she is" healthy" just by looking at her picture? Stereotypes can go either way. Big or small. Be whoever you want to be but we continue to judge books by their cover.
Katie Jenkins
She is very beautiful. Some people are so ignorant. I am heavier and i eat very little. Its just the way my body is and im very confident in how I look! So a big FU to those who dont think shes beautiful.
Michelle Mullica
some people are narrow minded. I am what people call skinny...I personally think this is a beautiful picture of a thick woman.. we all can't look alike..that would be so boring!
Melissa Conklin
Some people exercise and eat right and this is what we look like! How do you know if she is lazy? Just like a lot of skinny people (one of my cousins) can eat unhealthy all day and not gain one pound! You call her fat well I think that's like the ugly pot calling the kettle fat.. I mean really you have no room to talk bad about anyone! Everyone has their own opinion but to sit and be so judgmental is really just little minded..
Vickie Sanner
Have you ever heard....... if you don't have anything nice to say don't say any thing at all?
Rodrigo Borges
This comments shows what is wrong with America, the country that consumes more food per habitant in the world. Shame on you all.
Sherri Joiner
We do not know if she exercises or not. We do not know her genetic makeup. Does exercising and diet control make you healthy? Not necessarily. You can look FANTASTIC on the outside, but in the inside you have some terrible disease robbing you of life unbeknownst to you because you consider yourself to look and be healthy. LOOKS alone do not depict a healthy person.
Melissa Conklin
LOL shame on us? Where are you from I am guessing not America? Because talking like that to an American woman is a good way to get ur ass handed to you!
Vitória Neves
You don't get fat overnight. A friend of mine told me once that she was fat due to her genetics. Fact is she does't exercise at all and when we went out for lunch she ate twice as much as I did. Don't you pictures like this to excuse your fatness or lazyness. When I started gaining some weight I started to exercise and to be more careful with food. I lost the extra pounds. It's easier to loose 1 pound than 100 pounds. It's not all about genetics!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
We are all different sizes! Im short but Im not extremely skinny...I was actually told to gain weight because Im too skinny...I have some friends who can eat anything and never work out and not gain a pound..actually I have one friend who is too skinny and desperately tries to gain weight while another tries to lose. There are all different body types! Skinny women are just as real as bigger women we are all different and healthy is different for all of us. If I weighted 120 pounds I would be very unhealthy because it would be too small..but 200 would be way too big. Everyone is different, embrace it!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
correction: because I WAS too skinny...now Im right where Im supposed to be..curves and all :) and Im very excited about it!! I gained 35 pounds so now Im very healthy! Gaining weight is not always bad folks!
GranDee Files
This girl looks good and healthy. It's about time that society stops putting pressure on women to get skinny and look unhealthy.
Keeah McKlveen
I believe the point most were making here was that this model was not the normal model that gets the typical attention. It was nice to see the average size woman. Yes obesity is a problem in the US. I do not think this woman represents an obese woman. The person stating that she believes this woman overeats and doesn't exercise is an ignorant statements as you do not know her I am sure. So she's thick around the middle. Get over yourself. No one here is promoting anything unhealthi living
Sherri Joiner
Its not all due to genetics, no - but your metabolism probably runs at a higher rate than does her metabolism. But to say, she is fat, lazy and does not care about herself would be profiling. That would be the same as someone saying you were skinny and probably anorexic or bulimic simply because of your weight and you fit that profile.
Sheila Rodriguez
She isn't healthy. this is hard on your joints and every single organ in your body. I'm a nurse and have seen how an extra 40-50 lbs can damage and age your body much faster than a more healthy weight.
Vitória Neves
Research shows that there is no such thing as metabolism! A person who eats too much gets more likely obese and a person who doesn't eat (enough) anoretic. It is just as bad being obese as it is to be anoretic or bulimic.
Sherri Joiner
Sesame street only does fake research. You know it is not real... right? Please look again at the thyroid function, endocrine system and talk to an endocrinologist.
Melissa Conklin
it's anorexic..
I really hate when people say that "research says" when they really don't know what they are talking about. Makes you look kind of ignorant.. Educate yourself folks! It's not the only reason people are overweight yes some people are lazy but just because someone is heavier does not mean they are a fat pig.. I mean really grow up..
http://www.nytimes.com/1988...
Jonna Neldberg
Vitoria- You better go and check your resources before you make yourself sound ignorant. You spout off a lot for not knowing very much information. Agreed about Bulimic and Anorexic skinny women do look bad... So how is it your place to determine where the median is?
Karrie Panka
It's not always about excercize levels and metabolism. Our bodies have responded negatively to the additives and genetic alterations made to our food. Healthy is very much a lifestyle choice.
Dawn Crummey
@Vitoria Wake up to reality!! I am a thick girl, I do not overeat and I do exercise. I am not lazy and I do not sit around all day. All of the women in my family are bigger built women. That is just part of life. There are people who overindulge but I don't know their battles and their reasons why. Just like I don't know why you feel the need to be so critical of others. I love myself and you should try loving yourself. Smile it makes you feel better:)
Sawyer Radford
Ok, I think she is beautiful. Then again,(NOT toward you all at all!) people say," Don't be judgemental". Saying she is beautiful is a judgement too. It has just always been a thought of mine:D Haha:D Some women can't be STICKS. Like me, I am not fat but I don't look like a stick. Bone structure matters, GENETICS matter, your family history matters. I won't ever be able to be what society thinks is "skinny".
Melanie Wilson
It makes me sad to see women attacking each other over something superficial like this. Just think what we could accomplish if instead we learned to see each other as sisters and focus our energies on something that really matters in the world.
Barbara Redd
Vitoria, I did not mean to offend you, Again, I think she is beautiful!! The artist would not have chose her if they didn't think so also. As for weight. I am a little overweight, My diet is composed of healthy foods and the occasional splurge. I have an under active thyroid and choose to control it with food rather than medication; since these very medicines almost cost me my life. By the same token, my cousin has been in and out of medical institutions due to eating disorders because she was afraid of gaining a little weight, coming in a a mean 98lbs and five feet six. As for me, I embrace a person for who they are, and not what their weight is!!!
Vitória Neves
Whatever... don´t go to the gym, eat a lot and wonder why you are "magically" fat. Just google the causes for obesity and get your answers. Being healthy is a choice and is something that really matters.
Dawn Crummey
@Vitoria, don't forget beauty comes from the inside also. You can look your best and be unhappy and that is not healthy either. Just saying...
Sara Fields Hunley
I wouldn't say she is obese. Some woman have medical issues that make it hard for them to lose weight, even though the eat a healthy diet and exercise. People need to quit being so judgmental.
Vitória Neves
@Dawn Crummey I agree. @ Melanie Wilson Not everything you find in google is reliable but wikipedia for instance is. But that's another topic. I did an error by saying that metabolism doesn't exist. I got a bit confused. What I read is that you can't increase or decrease your metabolism by i.e. exrcising. Sorry for the mistake but there was no need to get offensive. Doing mistakes is human ;)
Elena Volta
Of course the asian says she's fat. sorry not everyone has the body of a 12 year old boy.
Lori Dickson-Butler
Hey Rodrigo...Ignorance isn't appealing in the slightest...she is who she is...beautiful
Marlene Lam
Hey Elena, I saw your comment and it saddens me that you resort to insulting an entire group of people because of what one ignorant person said. I am Asian, and I think this woman is gorgeous. I don't know what to do about my "12 year old boy" body, it's just the way I am and I don't know why it bothers you so much or what it has to do with the issue at hand at all.
Eleane Lambert
Way to bring your racist bigotry into the mix Elena Volta! No comment on the size of this woman...it's not my place to critique (nor any of yours) the way anyone else looks.
Kathleen Jensen
we should all take a second and realize that what we write and how we write it may be offensive to someone else. Everyone has their own opinion which is completely ok, but let us not target specific cultures please. @Elena Volta i am half chinese and i do not agree with what Trung said, and not ALL asians have the body fat of a 12 year old boy :)
It is easy to see that this picture has caused quite the debate, but why do we have to cut each other down over it?! women should just be happy and love the body they have! Some women love being curvy, some women love to workout and maintain a muscular physique, and some women find they feel most attractive when they are "society appropriate" skinny. HOW YOU FEEL IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT!
Jessica Hollis-Brown
@Vitoria, saying that you can't change your metabolism is complete and utter bull. Everything we do affects our metabolism, including the foods we eat, when we eat them, how little or much we eat, how much we exercise or don't, sleep patterns (lack of sufficient rest causes metabolism to slow), and stress. And those are external factors! The body's basal metabolism is also controlled by hormones (research the endocrine system), and a person can develop endocrine imbalances, causing them to be unable to gain or lose weight due to the metabolism running to high or low. Now, on to your attitude, which is pretty mean and elitist. I am and always have been heavier set, but have never been unhealthy. I eat carefully, drink tons of water, and am always on my feet and on the go--and I don't mean sitting in my car. I have perfect blood sugar and pressure, low cholesterol, and great endurance--but I'm still chunky. I'm healthier than 90% of stick-thin girls. What do you say to that?
Jessica Hollis-Brown
As to the "real woman" comments, all I can say is, a real woman is a woman. And we come in all shapes and sizes. As long as someone takes care of themselves, you can't judge them by their jeans size. Thick girls shouldn't hate on skinny girls, and vice versa. We're ALL women, and we have enough bullshit to deal with in life just being female, without ganging up on each other out of envy. Right? So size 12 or size 2, ROCK IT, you're sexy to YOU, and someone else will love you for who you are, not your size.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
What I want to know is, who is the model? Honestly, she looks like Adriana Lima's curvier sister! Beautiful!
Natalie Smetak
You know what I love the most? My God loves me any way that I come. He loves me, His favor is on me. I am beautiful in His eyes, not because of what I've done, good or bad, or what I look like on the outside, but because of what JESUS has done! My husband loves me in the same way.
Keeah McKlveen
How about this? David Oldham the photographer has generated a lot of conversation about this photo. Which in and of itself is pretty amazing. Job well done!
Vitória Neves
Any doctor would say that being overweight is unhealthy (I'm not using the word obese since you disagree that this woman is obese, but she is clearly overweight). @ Elena Volta So it's bad to say that someone is "fat" but OK to be racist. Regarding metabolism there was actuallt a recent research to find out why some people are overweight and other not. In the study they researched people of all sizes. The conclusion was that people don't have different metabolisms (slower or faster). What made people gain more wait was the amount of food they had taken in. If you eat more calories than you are able to burn you will gain weght. The golden rule is to eat less and exercise.
Elena Volta
I'm sorry Marlene to offend you. I did use a generalization just as fat as a generalization. I think everyone has the right to be happy with themselves if they are happy being the way they are. Didn't mean to offend a whole race.
Elena Volta
Victoria I never claimed to be right. Just sharing my opinion as they did theirs. And you're entitled to yours. :)
Jessica Hollis-Brown
@Vitoria, that was one study. I'd like to see the participant pool size and composition, the factors used to evaluate the data, and other methodology particulars that would indicate that it was a valid study. Please, check out the thousands of other studies conducted into the field. People DO have different metabolisms. My husband had Graves disease as a teen, where his thyroid was overactive, causing his metabolism to run high, and as a result was stick-thin and very unhealthy. They dosed him with radioactive iodine, resulting in an UNDERactive thyroid gland, for which he must take TSH orally, or his metabolism slows. Metabolism is real, it varies, and you're deluded.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
Also, any physician will tell you that it's better to be a little overweight than underweight. The difference is whether the person is active and whether their diet includes too much fat and salt. Being inactive is, by far, worse, since it can result in blood clots and SLOWED METABOLISM. It's very possible to be skinny and terribly unhealthy, just as it's possible to be overweight and healthy. Your smug superiority is ugly and indicates low self-esteem on your part.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
The more I look at this picture, the more I think it is a pic of a plus-size model with Adriana Lima's face photoshopped onto it. Not that a curvy woman can't be beautiful, but it looks too much like her!!
Erin Owens
I am skinny. She is not. I am out of shape for me, so is she. Who cares? The picture is pretty. Not all Asians look like 12 year old boys. I don't "have my panties in a twist" because I am skinny--in fact, I rock it. I like the way I look. And I like that this woman in the picture likes how she looks. What else is there to discuss? If you like the picture, then you like it. If you don't, then you don't. Move on.
Elena Volta
Eleane I am not a bigot. Every race has it's beauty , it's generalizations, it's stupidity and of course opinions on one another. I think everyone no matter size, shape, color, economic status can be beautiful. On that note I am going to have happy hour with my diverse group of friends all of different weights and colors. Have a great day discussing what everyone thinks is wrong or right. It's a never ending debate because there is no right or wrong just opinions.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
@Donna, thanks! @Cubana, I make friends with anyone, as long as they're kind and friendly their age, weight, budget size, religion, whatever. @Erin, well said.
Melissa Conklin
I am overweight but I am healthy! Not one thing wrong with me! Just because you look different does not mean its bad. I think what it boils down to is that people who are unhappy with themselves feel the need to judge others! People think that by being Skinny you will be happy but that is not the truth! She obviously is happy with herself and confident or no way she could have posed for a picture like this. I think its sad how quick woman judge each other and how mean and nasty we can be over something so superficial.
Vitória Neves
@Jessica Hollis-Brown In your words I'm elitist, superior, and other things I don't remember. But in the end you're the one who had an offensive attitude (just because I said that being overweight is unhealthy). So whose self-esteem is low?
Melissa Conklin
@ Vitória Neves lol I don't even know what to say.. If Wikipedia is so reliable then why can we not use it to research school papers? On the home page to Wikipedia.com it says
" Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit."
I don't just believe anything anyone says..
Vitória Neves
So try to edit it by adding wrong information and see how long it takes until it gets corrected. But, as I said that's another topic. Sorry, if I said that being overweight is unhealthy. It's a fact and there's no need to be offensive. Since this discussion is pointless I won't do any further comments. I rather have conversations with people who can argue( in an non offensive way).
Erin Owens
I am an English teachers with a M.Ed., and I am telling you straight out that Wikipedia is an unreliable source that is unacceptable even in high school research. They aren't even allowed to reference it in the tiniest way. @Vitoria, I have read everything you said, and I really have no comment because I don't care. You obviously have a strong command of English, but you aren't a native speaker, and that isn't your fault, so people need to stop correcting every little grammatical mistake you make. Meanwhile, try to calm your nerves. People are picking on you because you opened yourself up to it. Just give them a big "screw you" and move on with your day. In the end, I also think that being OVERweight is unhealthy because every medical journal you can possibly consult says so. They also say that being UNDERweight is unhealthy. It is the extremes that we should worry about. Other than that, it doesn't matter.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
@Vitoria, you are the one who first called someone who you don't know lazy and unhealthy, and made generalizations about a subject you are obviously ignorant of. You show your ignorance by quoting Wikipedia and by saying that people don't have different metabolisms. If you make statements, back them up with actual researched facts. Your pompous tone and simplistic statements about "If you just eat less and exercise more" show you are elitist--there are MANY people who do, indeed, do both things and have trouble losing weight. You make blanket statements and judgments and then get upset when people call you on them? And again, being UNDERweight is as unhealthy as being OVERweight. Healthy should be the ideal, whether the person is a size 1 or 11 or even more.
Shirley Williams
wow. look at all the comments this has attracted! Tells us that this picture represents something which people feel VERY passionate about, something which strikes a nerve. So many times, people who are overweight ( or underweight) are ridiculed and made to not feel good enough, based on magazine covers and what the world tells us is the perfect way to look. I say we all just take a good look int he mirror and ask what we need to do to be more heathy....not to look "hot" ...but to be more healthy. Period.
Zena Contrades
Who was the originator of this photo/pinterest? Why did you pinterest this? How do you feel about all the comments that are being said? Where you expecting these kind of reactions to the photo? Just curious?
Melba Wade
Well i have some of these curves. my mother weight 80lbs. she could:T eat she had a feeding tube,I am glad I can eat...
Melissa Conklin
We all have things about our body that we are unhappy with. Would we sit here and talk crap about a woman because of her boob size? Or if her nose were to big? Or maybe if her butt were too big for her body? The answer is yes because unfortunately there are people who like to judge other based on their looks? I don't think you really care that she is unhealthy I think you are mad because you are hungry and you have to fight to look a way you feel comfortable but we eat and we are MORE than happy with the way we look! "ROLLS"? I think when most people sit like that they are going to have some sort of rolls. I don't think when she stands up she would necessarily have rolls.. If you look at some of her other pictures she really looks the heaviest in this one her body really isn't that big especially for a plus size model.
Brenda McNeely
I think the term "real" refers to the more common body type. I consider myself pretty healthy but after 4 children and dealing with menopause, a few rolls aren't anything to be ashamed of.
EJW
Vitoria...From the comments you've displayed concerning this pin, it appears the saying, "Beauty is only skin deep" holds you well, as it appears that's where it stops with you. I apologize if that offends you as mostly I am just saddened by your ignorance.
Alycne Welsh
Thanks to Vitorea, we can all stop looking for a solution to our weight problems! Guess what? Metabolism is like Santa and the Easter Bunny...it doesn't exist. Phew, that's a relief. I have spent too many a day listening to the advice of medical researchers and doctors who claim everyone's metabolism is different. Thanks for clarifiying there Vitorea, or is it Dr.Vitoria???
Diane Malloy
Beautiful, artistic, and undemeaning to those of us who do not have the courtesy of having photos of ourselves photoshopped to hide the beauty that God has offered to each and every woman
Michelé Padayao
Has anybody looked at her face? Gorgeous...looks like a model to me. We can all debate & be negative, but it's a different perspective than what we usually see and it is beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so commenting on if she's pretty or not is trite
Jenn Santore
Hmm. Vitoria honestly you sound like a complete idiot. Especially since I just checked out your board called "food" and for someone who eats so healthy you don't seem to pin healthy foods. Your ignorant and probably have an eating disorder yourself, and probably was once a fat ass yourself. Stop preaching. Unless your a nutritionist, keep your uneducated responses to this picture to yourself. K.
Anna Quick-Palmer
I just hope that she doesnt give a fuck about what the rest of us think. She'd be better off than any of us.
Sallie Raymond-Mullinger
Oh MY!! Checking out Megan's FB page and her photos...I found a pic of her in a tutu get up which clearly shows that shes not exactly stick thin herself! I would say perhaps you need to take a long look in the mirror before you call someone else a fatty. You could definitely stand to back away from the doughnuts, my dear.
Kaitlyn Hartburg
Okay, most of you ladies are being really petty and mean! Everyone is different and healthy is different for every body type. Like I said earlier..I was told to gain weight because at 5'3" I weighted 100 pounds...I put on 40 pounds and look much better and healthier...even after that I gained another 15-20 and I look and feel better than ever because every one is different and my body begged to be a little bigger! Every body size is attractive to that man that is right for you!
Melissa Conklin
Brenda I was not speaking to you. I don't think anyone needs you to come to their defense! She seems pretty capable of sticking up for herself! If you don't like what I said simply don't read my post! Its pretty simple Brenda.. I am irritated by the idiotic posts that she wrote and I have every right to be! I'm a cyber bully lol right and you are all just being polite little princesses Oh dear please forgive me.. LOL NOT
Christine Boretti
She's lovely. She looks well within the range of healthy weight for her. if she were to stretch out and stand she would come off as thinner. Why should she? I do NOT see this woman as unhealthy.IT is far more dangerous to fluctuate your weight than to be at the higher end of a healthy range. By no beans is she overweight.
Melissa Conklin
@ Brenda one more thing.. Originally I didn't read your entire post because It was rather drawn out but I decided to go back since it seemed Ur quite the cyber bully your self. I said I'm overweight not that I have 6 rolls when I sit down.. But since we want to talk about insecurity creeping out much like Ur disgusting cleavage in Ur picture please spare me the lecture!
Dawn Parrish
NO ONE here can say whether or not she's HEALTHY. Just because she has some body fat doesn't mean she does or doesn't work out; it doesn't mean she's unhealthy or healthy. No one can determine that except her and her doctor. She IS beautiful and brave, however.
Jessica Hollis-Brown
The model is, as someone earlier said, an actual model, her name is Johanna Dray, and she is one of the top plus size models. And she's from Europe, so for those who said things about American women being fat...well, she's FRENCH. She does tons of work for those few couture companies that make "normal" sized clothes, and interestingly, she has lost quite a bit of weight in the past couple of years. Where she used to wear a 20, she's now a 14/16. Since that's the size I wear (gulp), I feel better! She's lovely and obviously feels good about herself. Wish more of us felt that way, skinny or not!
Melissa Conklin
Angry Nah Passionate YES! I don't need your luck I have my Lord who provides me with all I need. Don't patronize me.. Good luck to you as well It must be hard living being sooo close minded!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
@Brenda Singh...language please...children can see this...and its disrespectful. Im neither agreeing nor disagreeing with anything said..but please keep the language clean.
Melissa Conklin
If it's not a level that you need to go to Brenda then feel free to stop using my name at any time! I went on the other photo of the cover of Elle and there you are again picking on that thick girl so I didn't leave any comments I didn't want to give you another opportunity to be a bully!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
Haha I like to think Im a princess...both a disney princess and my daddy calls me his princess! lol well I don't mind people saying what they think..we just need to remember that young kids..do get on here ya know? So thanks so so much!
Melissa Conklin
Oh my so you pick a fight, call me names and then delete your comments and then act like your all high and mighty. Give me a break! I'm done with your ridiculousness..Someone needs to be medicated!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
aww thanks for calling me beautiful!! Your a beautiful person as well! :) We are all princesses in our own way..so do the princess wave and wear your tiara proudly and continue to spread the sunny positivity!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
@Melissa Conklin...wow that was all kinds of offensive..back off of Brenda...she is a lovely person and your being cruel. Can we all be more considerate?
Melissa Conklin
LOL because she called you beautiful? If Using foul language and picking on people is what you consider a lovely person then more power to you!
Kaitlyn Hartburg
haha and now your turning on me..when a while ago you said "well said" to me... I may not agree with what she said about this picture..but who cares..she is a gorgeous girl who is obviously confident in herself and those are all lovely qualities...all I'm seeing from you is hostility.. Brenda and I have both shown that we can be civil and friendly to each other..why don't you try that instead? Im sure your a princess as well!! :) Which princess would you like to be? Im probably Belle or Rapunzel
Shannon Vinson
I love that people are calling this porn! HAHAHAHA. Showing skin does not equal porn. That's hilarious. Love the pic, this woman is gorgeous. & just to note, just because she is considered "plus size" doesn't mean she doesn't work out or go to the gym. That's pretty silly to assume.
Melissa Conklin
I'm not turning on you at all I have no problem with you.. I just don't think that the way she acted and what she said was appropriate.. I disagree that she portrayed herself as a lovely person or that she in fact is lovely.. Time to move on :) I think u look more like Belle! @ Justine for your sake and your inbox.. I'll let this one go :)
Kaitlyn Hartburg
haha well Belle and Rapunzel both read..thats why I like them...they are smart chicks!! But thanks so much...my dress for prom looked exactly like Belle's yellow dress! Thanks for the positivity ladies!
Tereza Deshon Lopez
She's a pretty women. Healthy? Who knows? Im the same size and i do not consider myself healthy. But her confidence is sure at a healthy level! But who ever said metabolism is the same for everyone, is not true. Im way more active now that i have children and yet its way harder for me to loose weight.
Melissa Conklin
Well welcome! It's my midnight treat after my three little girls go to bed! I love finding new great things on here for the kids, and house it's great! ( I think I'll stay away from posts like this from now on Lesson learned!)
Melissa Conklin
LOL yes FB does get old! I don't do any of the little games on there so it only takes a few minutes to reply to everything then what ?? Too bad there is not a way to fix it so you can do it on your phone! Gosh I don't even get on pinterest on my phone I don't think it's a good idea I get started lol .. I play Texas hold em on my phone and I get nothing done..
Melissa Conklin
Kool I shouldn't but of course Im going to lol... Awesome about your husband! GOOD LUCK!
Shirley Williams
Zana...to answer your question, no I was not the one who originally pinned this but when I repinned it, i sure didnt expect this kind of response. However, I think a good dialogue is important and healthy for us all When i initially saw the pin, i was just glad someone posted a beautiful woman who was not pencil thin such as the Hollywood images and magazine images which we are inundated with. Seldom do you see someone like this in a magazine..Many women strive to be thin but not many strive to be this weight.....
Sallie Raymond-Mullinger
@melissa conklin: Kudos to you for standing by your convictions and not rolling over when someone attacked you. If more people were like you, the world wouldnt be in such a mess. The person who had to delete her posts apparently didnt have much conviction to her point of view. BTW....someone with her looks should be satisfied and not feel the need to denigrate another human being. I guess proof, yet again, that looks arent everything.
Vitória Neves
If you can't accept who you are don't blame other people for not doing it. You obviously don't feel comfortable with yourselves that's why you overreact when I say that I don't think that being overweight is beautiful and not healthy. I would never want to be like that model. I don't know a single person who is overweight who didn't try to lose weight through a diet, pills, etc. What I saw was that they didn't succeed because they couldn't stick to a diet and exercise. I love food, enjoy to cook and like to enjoy my meals w/ moderation. Never been fat and have no eating disorder. I'm just careful because I like myself. Before you insult someone maybe you should look at yourselves and do something to feel better. Most of the people are overweight by choice and have the potential to lose weight. You are no hopelesses cases if you don't have medical issues. And if you say that you are overweight due to medical reasons... well then you'll have to agree w/ me... your not healthy.
Vitória Neves
You should read this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/health...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
The information related to this subject (in wikipedia) is quite reliable you can also check the references.
Before you talk about theses issues. Instead of waisting your energy blaming others use it for something useful. Don't blame others for your overweight. You can do something about it you just need to have a strong will (in most of the cases, there are always exceptions).
Vitória Neves
@Sallie you overreact when someone didn´t agree with overweight but then acuse the same person of being fat and eating too much doughnuts. That's not very smart and hypocrite, Sorry...that's the way I see it.
Melissa Conklin
@ Vitoria.. I think what Sallie meant to do was shine some perspective .. If you yourself are not exactly healthy why make fun of someone else who is not.. All woman should stick together big or small. It's sad and irritating to those of us who think this way.. to see a fellow woman write (FAtty) on a picture of a strong woman like this we get kind of offended..
Vitória Neves
*you're not healthy.
@Melissa It's not right to call someone a "fatty" but that doesn't give the right to be offensive as well.
I think that we can learn a lot from this. Instead of attacking each other... why don't we encourage each other to be healthier? I think this would be more useful.
Brittany Graves
Reading most of the comments on here is just sad to me. WE ARE ALL REAL WOMEN. Saying that a skinny girl isn't a real woman is like saying a man with small genitalia isn't a real man. Curvy or stick straight it doesn't matter, we are who we are. It's what is on the inside that counts. And slamming each other for someone disagreeing with you is just as ignorant as their intolerance. Opinions are just that, opinions. NOBODY is going to come to an agreement on this subject, and that is okay. Name-calling and degrading anybody else is not. We all obviously do not feel confident in ourselves ALL THE TIME. If we did, we wouldn't care what other people say or feel the need to defend ourselves, we just wouldn't give a crap and it would have no effect on us. I look forward to the day when pictures like this aren't headlining news and we can always see diversity on tv and in magazines without everyone getting so upset.
Melissa Conklin
@ Vitória Neves that's the first thing you have written that I agree with.. Encouragement goes a long way!
Melissa Conklin
Ok well last night I told myself that I wouldn't write any more on here but apparently your ignorance irritates me more than I realized. YOU say one thing and do another.. You say "NOT everyone needs to say hurtful things to get their point across" but isn't that exactly what you did to me last night? because you were not happy with what I wrote. Don't preach about peace and superiority and then go and do the exact opposite that is the true definition of a hypocrite! I think we all know how the internet works when you call someone a FATTY or say something similar you are opening up the flood gates. If you don't like it then maybe you shouldn't be so ARROGANT.. No need to say anything else I think we all know where you stand..
Vitória Neves
Are you talking to me?! If so when did I offend you or what did I say to offend you? Did I call you a "fatty"? I don't remember that one. If you didn't mean me I apologize in advance.
Kaitlyn Hartburg
@Vitória Neves hehe no i think she meant brenda because breanda said "not everyone needs to say hurtful things to get their point across". Just wanted to make sure your not hurt! lol and @Brenda Singh hey there! We meet again lol
Melissa Conklin
@ Vitoria.. No that was not directed toward you.. I said I agreed with ur last post.. I would hope you would remember if you called someone a "fatty"
Sallie Raymond-Mullinger
@Vitoria....The way you "see it" caused many people, last night and again today, to question your ability to be kind and considerate. I think its YOU who arent very smart and definitely a hypocrite!
Laura Brouse-Thomas
CAN IGET OUT OF THIS LOOP? All I did was click "like" and my mailbox is being deluged with strident rants. You all can continue but how do I get out of this?
Lisa Harris
@Laura Brouse-Thomas. I'm with you on that my inbox is a mess because of this ongoing topic. I couldn't find where to turn off email notifications. You can try clicking the "unlike" button and deleting your comment.
Laura Brouse-Thomas
@ Lisa. I think I found it. In menu bar click your name, then settings, then e-mail setting, then change notifications. I was never able to find a way to "unlike" the photo. (?)
Alyssa Johnson McNamara
I don't think this model is any more "real" than any other model simply because she's larger. http://www.youtube.com/watc... This is still a model. She was still professionally primped and airbrushed. She is still more beautiful in this image than she is in real life. This picture is not of a real woman. The problem is that in our society, the media bombards us with a disproportionately large number of very thin women, encouraging an unrealistically narrow definition of a "normal, healthy weight." The truth is that health cannot be determined simply by looking at a person. You cannot know a person's eating habits, activity level, metabolism, etc. by looking at her dress size. So no. I don't think she is any more real, or any more healthy than any other model. HOWEVER, I do believe we need more models like her, who are confident and willing to add variety to the body types we see every day in all venues. I think that girls need to know that there are many faces to beautiful.
Alyssa Johnson McNamara
Having said THAT, I do also believe we need to educate girls about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I simply think we need to separate the ideas of weight and beauty. One is not dependent on the other.
Nichole Orleman Shuler
I just read through almost all of these comments and most of them are from women- bickering and arguing with each other over a picture and their opinions of the this beautiful woman. Why can’t we (as women) just support each other? We get enough flack from men why do we have to hate on each other? In my opinion we should have each other’s backs no matter what! If that’s her “beautiful” then we should support that, otherwise you’re just feeding into the socially constructed idea of what “beauty” is! Everyone is beautiful in thier own way.
E. Jean
Our image- and self-obsessed culture has led us to ladies bicker and squabble about weight and beauty so that we don't do anything more fruitful with our time, like change the world
Anne-Marie Ezeard
Wish this photo came with a few bits about this beautiful woman, name, hobbies, etc - I wonder if knowing her would have some people re-thinking their negative comments. Are you so insecure that appearance is everything ladies? Grow up.
Cassie Jaqua
I think confidence is beautiful, it doesn't matter how much you weigh, but how you carry yourself. It really isn't important what everyone else thinks, and I'm pretty sure this woman really doesn't care about the negativity some people have to share.
Stacie Chapman
Outer beauty and sexiness are both solely subjective. Her journey to be her most healthy self is just that...HER journey. Perhaps this photo is a "doing" point on her confidence journey, who are we to say.
If you have achieved your best possible health, then focus on helping others do the same. Energy spent being negative towards another is energy that should be redirected to work on ridding yourself of negative thoughts in the first place.
Beauty is in the balance of it all.
To me, she has lovely skin and gorgeous hair, and confidence to boot. Thumbs up, miss lady. Keep striving to be your best self.
♡ Tammy ♡
I think she is beautiful. Size does not matter to me. We are all beautiful. To me what counts is what is inside of a person...their soul..
Vitória Neves
This is just an example of a successful story: http://toneitup.com/blog.ph... There are plenty more! You don't need need a gym or waste any money in expensive equipment. Here you can find a lot of motivation, advice and workouts that can easily be done at home: http://www.youtube.com/user... Tone it up, blogilates and Zuzana Light are just a few examples. It's where you could start in case you care about being healthy. It's a hard but in the end worth it.
Kailee O'Sullivan
This model is NOT Johanna Dryer. Her name is Tara Lynn and yes she is a plus size model. Just to clear up a few things, I have worked with her a few times before. She is just as beautiful in real life but I have to say its amazing how the camera changes things. She looks bigger (but gorgeous) in this picture but in real life I promise no one would look at her and say "what a fatty". Not even you vitoria. She is completely normal size, and very proportionate. If you look at more pictures of her you'll see that when she is standing up, she has a FLAT stomach and womanly hips. Not overweight. She eats healthy and works out and that I know for a fact. I dont know any woman who when they dont sit down does not have rolls, even those with a relatively flat stomach. I also dont know many women who show there rolls in a national magazine and therefore are not as scrutinized. This was a 20 page spread in French Elle. Tara Lynn is inspiring to women around the world
Kailee O'Sullivan
And sorry vitoria but your negativity is ugly. Maybe you should think about women who beat up their bodies on a daily basis because of what they see in the media, hollywood and the fashion industry. When they see this picture I really dont think they are going to say "wow now i want to get bigger and eat like a pig and be unhealthy!" No, they will more likely say, "wow, maybe I am beautiful the way I am." There is nothing more important than accepting and loving yourself. And a woman like this in a magazine like Elle can help do that.
Rodrigo Borges
I keep getting this stupid responses in my mailbox, so I have to say something. Please, stop making ridiculous excuses for yourself. Fatness is not natural, your grandparents were not fat, people in other countries are less fat and 50 years ago there wasn't many fat people. Try to see people in Norway, Sweden, Holland. Why aren't these people so fat? Explain that to me please. Many of you say: "Oh I have a low metabolism, oh I have medical condition, etc". Are you sure? Try getting more informed: http://www.bbc.co.uk/health...
Vitória Neves
Ok... now being realistic and to encourage other people is something negative... wow! By the way, I already knew her name and saw a few vids. She is clearly overweight. That's not healthy (you can check that with a doc, a nurse and literature). In your texts you used words like "fatty" and "pig" but I'm the one who is negative "uggly" and who insults people...
Kailee O'Sullivan
No one is saying that being "fat" is healthy! Eating in moderation and honoring your body is healthy! What Im saying is that this woman is not fat. THis is part camera magic to promote a different imagae, and part no one used to seeing anything other than stick thin in magazines. I know this woman in real life and she takes care of herself. She does not look like an overweight woman, and you only need to look at any other picture of her to realize that. Again, I dont think anyone would say that being extremely overweight is a good thing. But this is not extremely overweight. This is just bigger than we're used to seeing. And sorry but there have been heavier people for as long as humans have existed. But your definition of overweight is probably a lot different from most
Vitória Neves
If she is a "double size" how come she's not overweight? Those cams really must do miracles... Do people with a healthy weight look the same way when cams like those are used on them?
I think that unhealthiness shouldn't be promoted (underweight or overweight).
Megan Kissel
i just read today that the average size woman in america is 14. stick thin or overweight is a persons perogative. celebrate being a woman, regardless of size.
Monita Fas
This is a beautiful woman, sorry to the peops who think only thin is healthy, beautiful and sexy!
GranDee Files
@Kailee O'Sullivan. Kailee, you must've misstaken my comment wrong. I don't know how this woman looks in real life I was just commenting on THIS PHOTO. I think she looks good in this photo. I am a size 14. So was Marilyn Monroe. One can be curvy and healthy.
Stephanie Kramer
That's my friend Tara- and she's amazing in person both to look at and her personality. She is curvy and beautiful and I'm so proud of her!
Joan DePoppe
This photo is the best ever -curves are good for us... stick thin is just plain stupid...
Jennifer Sanders
I believe every woman should be healthy... If that's a size 16 or a size 6. Metabolisms, genetics, shape and height all vary; every woman is different. Healthy is what is beautiful.
IHeart SunnyDays
I see a gorgeous lady in a beautiful chair. We are all beautiful and different for a reason :)
Roxana Rodriguez
I think that this woman is beautiful. Whether she is "healthy" or not we can't really comment on unless we personally know her, which i don't. beiong "healthy" is different for each person 1800 calories a day may be healthy for me and not adequate for someone else same with exercise. What I find incredibly sad is that many of the negative comments on this thread were by women, not all but many. We are all REAL! The media has done an excellent job about making us feel crappy about our bodies by setting an incredibly unrealistic standard and instead of fighting THAT we are here tearing each other down. Sad. The current standard of beauty has been set by a predominant patriarchal system and it is not only unrealistic but largely unattainable for most women. You know why this is? So they can sell us crap we don't need: diet pills, anti aging creams, anti cellulite creams, etc. This system thrives on making us, women, feel inadequate otherwise it wouldn't make MONEY!
Roxana Rodriguez
Wake up ladies! we should be working together to change this not bashing each other. We come in all sizes, shapes, and colors there is beauty in all of this. Let's strive to be healthy and set an example for our young ladies. Who are watching us and learning. Lets teach them to be accepting of other women and men.
Autumn Vallette
im not going to lie, i could use to lose a few pounds, and i have been. i dropped from a size 28 to 22 in just a couple months and its really nice btw. as for you people that think being "FAT" is unhealthy, and we're lazy people that sit around all the damn time, i have some news for you, we're not. i work a full time job, and i dont eat much. im VERY HEALTHY. i eat lots of fruits and veggies, and etc, and not much junk. if you insist that this woman is ugly because of her WEIGHT, then you have some kind of brain malfunction. shes beautiful and i would give an arm and a leg to be like her. i would rather be a curvy, vivacious woman, than a stick figure!! i love the way i look, and so does the man that loves me. just because you dont like it, doesnt mean you have to look. and so you know, some overweight people have issues with their health, making it hard to lose weight. i know one of my factors is stress!! so before you say they need the gym, you need to rethink that statement and --
Autumn Vallette
-- put yourself in their shoes. what if it was you? and dont say, it isnt, or it never could be. you could be hit by a car tomorrow, and be wheelchair bound for the rest of your life. what then? you people need to stop going by what the media says is beautiful and trust your own judgement. the media doesnt know what beautiful is. beautiful is what you see in the mirror every morning. its what other people see when they look around. its fat, skinny, black, white, brown, asian, tall, short, fit, obese, and any other kind of person in the world. fuck what the media says. and rodrigo, and vitoria, you guys can go fuck yourselves, youre bringing a knife to a gunfight, and you should stop typing while youre way behind.
Janine Isabelle
This woman is GORGEOUS. If all you see when you look at her is "fat", that says a lot more about how you see yourself than it does about the rest of us. Furthermore, it is absolutely possible to be healthy at any size, as health is about SO MUCH MORE than your weight. Stop shaming other people and start loving your own bodies, no matter what size they are.
Vitória Neves
@Autumn since it is impossible to have an intelligent conversation with someone who says sh** like you all I can say is LOLLLLLLLLLL
Elaine Maynard
She is beautiful and I would kill to have her skin and hair but I am somewhat confused as to how having a bigger waist size somehow makes you a 'real' woman.
Manfred Nüchter
Zufriedenheit kommt von Innen. Eine Figur macht keinen Menschen, sondern das Gefühl, das er vermitteln kann.
Autumn Vallette
an intelligent conversation, vitoria, isnt about one persons intelligence, but all parties. youre not the most intelligent person in this conversation, which leads me to believe that youre quite stupid, considering your over confidence in your intelligence, is only a cover for how little you believe in yourself.
Vitória Neves
you're so rude and your words are so empty... you make me sad. Feeling frustrated doesn´t give you the right to offend others and bully. You're the only one to blame. Whatever frustrates you is not my fault and I'm not your punching bag, sorry!
Autumn Vallette
so giving you my psychological opinion on your comments and character, is bullying now? okay. i'll let you believe that. just so you know, though, the opinions that you have brought into this conversation, were quite rude and mean. so really the bully is who? tere is nothing wrong with being large. im large. im also very healthy. my intelligence is also quite impressive. in fact, my intelligence impresses someone with an IQ of over 140. so i would appreciate if you wouldnt assume that im "stupid" or just "fat
Vitória Neves
Psychological opinion?! What part do you mean that I should f*** myself or that I'm stupid? Lool you make no sense.... I pitty you.
Vitória Neves
by the way get over me. I'm not that important. The last time I posted a comment was over a week ago and I never addressed you directly as far as I remember. I have no interest in you or in continuing this conversation. So do me a favour and find someone else to attack.
Lisa Sulack
@Vitoria, most the people on pinterest are from the midwest, most of the people that immigrated to the midwest were from Germany, Sweden ;ect. We understand him just fine. So maybe he doesn't know English, he still reserves the right to an opinion and I for one value his opinion because he has wonderful insight. @ MANFRED, I applaud you. danke soviel. Plus, it's not too difficult for others to figure out what he's saying in this day and age.

Die Frage war nicht böse gemeint. War einfach nur neugierig. Wusste aber nicht dass die meisten hier deutsch verstehen würden. Umso besser!

I think this women is beautiful! A person being "fat" does not mean that they are lazy or eat to much. Being "fat" runs in my family. The main person in my immediate family that is skinny is because of illness. I personally would rather be a few sizes smaller and I struggle with that but I try to stay positive. I believe that a women can be beautiful no matter the size. I dont like that the media tries to change that view and rarely praises large women for good.
Teresa Davis
Jessica..I totally agree with you. I think she is beautiful and I wish I had as much confidence with my body as she does....
Wer seid Ihr denn?
MJWOOD Wood
Not sure what picture some of you are seeing here but THIS is far from fat? Just because you are not a size ten does not put you in the unhealthy category. I am appauled at the small minds here. Perhaps jealousy due to the self confidence and natural beauty that is displayed in this picture. Gorgeous.
