For 2012 i'm really excited to offer the new (really an old) Global Warming series of late blooming old fashioned fall garden mums (seen above) with a more graceful garden habit and longer stems for cutting.

We were wowed by Stokisia Peachies Pick and the stiff stems, abundant blooms and gorgeous colors of this fabulous variety of Stokes aster. Its a summer blooming easy to grow perennial

Plant Physalis or Chinese Lanterns in its own area of the yard cause its invasive but a must have for fall decorations and bouquets.

Blue Paridise one of the best mildew resistant phlox (plant in a dry sunny spot away from irrigation)and just look at that color! Butterfly magnet and easy long lived perennial. An heirloom pass along plant but one that your friends and neighbors will actually want.

OK this one'll cost you $95 but hey, not bad for a work of art that's been years in the making! ITOH peony Copper Kettle is a cross between a tree and regular peony-an investment plant that literally keeps getting better and better with age.

Oops, had to add one more plea for zinnias -just LOOK at those mouthwatering colors .....

Helianthus Flora Pleno Perennial sunflower but with a more restrained size and the best sturdy stiff double blooms that just keep coming all summer. I love the unopened and unfurling buds almost more than the flowers!Very chic in mixed midsummer bouquets, super long vase life

We were surprised and delighted when this lesser known perennial ornamental grass,Muhlinbergia Pink Champagne, bloomed last fall with the most dainty ethereal sparkling pink seedheads- Fabulous!

Yes,Delphinium are short lived perennials that really want to be in England but, with irrigation, they'll probably be OK. What makes them irresistible tho is their long bloom time and classic statuesque spires of heavenly blue. Try them in large pots too!

Peach Leaf Bellflower- easy perennial, great tall spikes for cutting, beautiful shades of blues, purples, pinks, whites and bicolors.

What can I say? Love love love love zinnias of all shapes and sizes. A must have for the cutting garden PLANT LOTS!! ps deer resistant, drought tolerant and budget friendly as its super easy to grow from seed

Used extensively in UK gardens, Astrantia or Masterwort deserves more recognition here.In the garden Astrantias adds a chic flowery meadow effect while its sturdy, flower texture lends longevity to the both bloom season and cut shelf life.

Astilbe love shady moist conditions and are an easy long lived perennial that stays nice looking throughout the season due to neat tidy foliage and the attractiveness of the aging flowers/seed heads

Tanyosho Pine or Umbrella Pine lives quite happily in a whiskey barrel for a number of years while you decide on just the right spot.

Yucca Color Guard put this in your hottest driest area -maybe at the entrance gate or end of the driveway?

Ajuga Black Scallop looks good 365 days a year -neat and tidy

Fargesia or Clumping Bamboo a true investment plant gets more beautiful with each passing season

All the attributes of boxwood but different look and texture. A must have -try all varities

Cristina Spindler Cryptomeria globosa a dwarf Japanese Cedar

Boxwood, boxwood and more boxwood! Whats not to love its deer proof drought and shade tolerant and actually fun to prune in a zen mindful sorta way. If you don't like to prune just plant dwarf varieties. I love it so much I'm actually thinking of joining the Boxwood Society! Become a fan of boxwood....

Mandevilla Sun Parasol Giant Crimson-OK forget everything else - if you only have energy time money etc to plant ONE thing -this tropical vine is it . Most bang for your buck from any plant EVER! Just make sure to save your most prominent fence section, arbor, gate or trellis to hold it up in your neighbors FACE!!!

Petunia Vista Silverberry- amazing performance in large pots or landscape settings all last summer plus a soft natural pink that plays well with others

Petchoa is a cross between a petunia and a callibrachoa - love the Terra Cotta variety for spilling out of planters and over retaining walls
