They all weigh 150lbs There is no ‘right’ body type. Weight looks different on different people, and it is ALL OKAY. Don’t compare yourself to other people’s bodies, learn to love the body you’re in NOW and what it can do NOW.

Paige Stannard Wow thank you for this! My sister has debilitating psoriatic arthritis and I can't wait to show her!
This past March was designated women's month in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In order to close it out on a high note, MSF teams in DRC did something a little unusual--they helped organize a fashion show that featured women living with HIV/AIDS. The goal was threefold: to fight discrimination against people living with HIV, to alert the public to the tragic lack of access to treatment in the country, and to show what is possible when treatment is made available.

The Conversation about women’s bodies exists largely outside of us, while it is also directed at (and marketed to) us, and used to define and control us. The Conversation about women happens everywhere, publicly and privately. We are described and detailed, our faces and bodies analyzed and picked apart, our worth ascertained and ascribed based on the reduction of personhood to simple physical objectification. STOP IT.

These are some pictures from Kate Harding’s BMI Project (kateharding.net/...). Click through for dozens more pictures. It is perfect illustration of how flawed the BMI system is. There is nothing wrong with ANY of the bodies shown in any of the pictures above. There is nothing wrong with your body either. BMI does not tell you ANYTHING about your body. BMI is not a barometer of health, of beauty, of self-esteem, or of happiness. There is no such thing as a ‘heal...

Lazy. Stupid. Worthless. From news media and magazines to professional conferences and government reports, these are the words often used to describe overweight and obese individuals. The endorsements of such stereotypes often lead to extreme weight loss practices which can induce feelings of guilt and shame. Despite the robust research demonstrating the negative impacts of weight-based discrimination, the stigma of obesity has yet to be addressed as a legitimate concern. Shift the Focus ques...

The Body Collage Project Students from Santa Monica College got a close-up look at how media images of beauty are a far cry from reality. Check out the slideshow. They compiled a massive collection of beauty and fashion ads and then posed in front of them to show the world what real beauty looks like. Here are behind-the-scenes images and official photos from the Body Collage Project!

Forget airbrushed size 00 models posing in their undies, Ultimo has picked a range of women to star in its latest advertising campaign. The lingerie giant has opted to use the kind of women who actually buy their collections – those aged 18-46 and from 00 up to a size 18 – as well as chosen to not airbrush their bodies. (Note that there WAS retouching to their faces: ie wrinkles/complexion, & basic lighting/contrast PS tools, but this is a wonderful step forward!!)

Mrs Ronzulli, an MEP from Italy, took her tiny daughter Victoria to a vote at Strasbourg. She kept her baby carefully cradled against her in a sling and occasionally leant to kiss her on the forehead. This is how we need to support working mothers and fathers. You should never have to choose between your career and having a family. >> Inspiring!

NeedEspresso I don't understand. They are MODELS. They are paid to be skinny, and they have been photoshopped or airbrushed since the beginning of time. Any girl with a brain knows that unless she's a model, she's not expected to look like that. Sheesh.
Amber Gideon Why should all models be skinny and photoshopped? Maybe it's time for a change.
NeedEspresso I agree not ALL models should be - it would be awesome to have a few chubby chicks( btw, I'm a curvy girl myself) be seen in magazines and on the runway... Because I *know* the clothes are not going to look the same on me as a size two. My point is, that they shouldn't stop it altogether.. :) It's part of the glamour. I think it's because the models are getting so scary skinny. Back when Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell were the top Supermodels, there was never this kind of uproar.. I think because they were fit, and didn't look like 13 year old anorexic Russian girls.
