No, I want to LIVE here. Newport, RI. Marble House - rear view facing sea, circa 1968. Built 1888-1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt, it was a summer "cottage" that cost $11million to build, of which $7million was spent on 500,000 cubic feet of marble. Upon its completion, Mr. Vanderbilt gave the house to his wife as a 39th b.day present. The Vanderbilts divorced in 1895. Alva married Oliver H.P. Belmont and moved down the street to Belcourt. (Better than an afternoon soap opera!)
