Patty Keller interesting!
MaryAnn Coggins Cool.....I am going to try this! We use these in salads all the time....
Christie Blair If you don't want to bother with changing the water, just pot them up. I pot them in a peat pot full of compost and set that in a shallow plastic container. It's right above my sink so it's easy to remember to add a bit of water anytime the container is dry.
Pikkie Louw I will try this.

Barbara Hill My most fav summer herb. Makes the greatest sandwiches and salads all the better. My best tip is to keep the leave closest to the top pinched off every few days and it will continue to produce all season. (if you let one of your plants go to seed they will have babies all in your gardening pot). Blessings, B

Lisa Wagman In Chicago, my thyme, mint, and chives all came back this spring in pots. The chives are huge and blooming. The thymes are spreading and the mint is already getting tall. I know rosemary can overwinter as well in colder climates. I wish I would have left mine outside to find out. It died inside after two months.
Mythreyi Vattikuti Love Herbs in my Garden, always planted them in soil and didn't get lucky, will try this in pots...
Doreen Alaimo I didn't think they came back....I live in New England.....I will have to check to see any signs of life....maybe some herbs do and some don't I will have to do some research....ty
Dani Brown There are only a couple of varieties of rosemary that will overwinter even on the southwest coast of BC, Lisa. "Arp" is one. I grow mine in a sheltered spot with lots of sun, and cover it with a teepee of cedar or fir boughs in November-March.

Bernadette Haddleton It doesn't like a climate below 55 degrees. Use walls of water around your plants, and grow inside till at least mid may.
Phyllis Thomton Love BASIL; bothered by little beasts..use hot sauce! Pretty good chance the varmant won't be back.
Wendy Mitchell Cline Squirls are getting mine too. @ Phyllis... did you put hot sauce on the dirt? Did it work?
Lynn Thiessen The Basil looks great but Quest bars pop up for some reason on this site....???? tread carefully, I love them, have a bunch..........they WILL jump your glucose...google them and read the reviews........fiber is not always deductible....I can only eat 1/2 without serious elevation.........as I said, I do not know why they appear in connection with basil, but do not believe the NET carb equation.........it is more complicated...enjoy the basil.......limit the bars.
Doreen Alaimo wow...great info!

Carol Allee I use "Tulle" that you can buy at the fabric store for VERY cheap. Some of it is 60" wide. It's the stuff you use to stiffen under skirts, or ballet tutu's. It's cheap, easy to put on and take off, and if you take it off after the berrys are done, it'll last for several years. It works great.

Kimberly Nichols Helpful hint that I tried last year for my garden, I purchased soaker hoses and set it in the garden around each plant. Then I bought a timer that is specifically designed to water. It was so much easier. It watered everything in the morning before for was too hot. I could program the minutes I wanted and how many days and how often. It was the first time in years that I NEVER had to worry about "did I water? too much? I will be doing it again this year.

Pepper Plants: Spray the plant with Epsom salts (1 teaspoon dissolved in a spray bottle of warm water (about 4 cups). That gives the pepper plant a boost of magnesium that is required at flowering time to produce fruit. Spray them again 10 days later and in a few weeks for bigger harverst

Brenda Ernest Ahlm When I plant all of my peppers and tomatoes I always use a capful fo milk of mag to the roots! Works GREAT!
Tammy Donegan I save egg shells all year long. Bake them in the oven when I'm preheating, then crumble. Put the crushed eggs shells under the plants for an extra calcium boost.
Brenda Ernest Ahlm Every year I buy a sack of oyster shells and put a tablesppon on the bottom of each one of my tomatoes and peppers to prevent blossom end rot!
Kathleen Wojtalik Valin I'm gonna try this.
Brenda Ernest Ahlm I plant the Big Bertha Peppers and I do alot of canning each year(canned over1000 jars last year) making salsa and V-8 juice and I didn't have to buy any peppers to can! They were waist high or bigger!

Linda Martin My favorite over the years in the backyard and around the pool is lemon grass, hard to find here in Texas, none of the plant stores carry it so I order it in April for May delivery from santarosegardens.com It works great and I can use it in my recipes and my dogs munch on it when they have an upset stomache
Linda Martin I use lemon grass too, but can't find it local, I get it from santarosagardens.com I also use the leaves in some recipes.
Beau Flexx May try it out this summer, the citronella. I've never seen it at any of the garden centers, but I wasn't actively looking.

Linda Peterson-Sharp I love this idea!
Thankam Paul good tip for garden pathway
Kathy May good use of old bricks
Kristen Pennington @ Donna, you'll want to dig down at least 4", level with a gravel base and a thin layer of regular sand, then lay brick/ stone. Polymeric sand is used to sweep in the joints and bonds like concrete after it is wetted. keeps anything from growing in the joints.
Mary Jaine Denise will have to help me
vinegar - the weed murderer!!!

Kristen Holmes Saturated my weeds with vinegar... didn't work!
Betsy Hester Not possible ... did it rain that day or the next? It works ... period ... I've tried it, even on poison ivy ... it works. Something was amiss.
Teri Catron Bought vinegar by gallons, transferred into an empty lg refillI hand soa container with flip lid, was easy to control where poured. (could also use emty Dawn bottle). just put straight vinegar on the grass & weeds growing in my brick sidewalk. Been 3 days, still no weeds!! but did it on hot sunny day,no rain. read that I may have to do again couple more times tho, alright with me!
Teri Catron meant to say hand soap bottle

Susan Alger Water features, too?
Amber Gray these look delicious
Lynn Boutwell Sharon, good question. That is what a county extension guy told me, said it was safe for everything but skeeters. I don't know the answer to that, but I use them only in birdbaths and broken tree limbs.
Lynn Boutwell Sharon and others concerned about amphibians, etc. Read the info on this site toward bottom, specifically re dunks. They are only a problem (?) as far as removing a large food source (mosquitos). Great info in this site. http://www.treewalkers.org/...
Lynn Boutwell Lani - the manufacturers say they can be used in wetlands, good for 30 days, and wetting-drying-rewetting doesn't hurt them. So you could spread them out on dry ground prior to flooding.
