Pam I absolutely adore the Hawaiian girl appliqué!!! A fabulous bag!!!
Keren Duchan So pretty! The drawstring at the top is a nice touch. I updated the post (http://www.sewlavie.co...)
June Walker LOVE THIS! I do not know which side I like better, both are just great
Jill Just beautiful! - both sides are equally lovely!
An extra tote I made this weekend for a gift, felt circles appliquéd onto the canvas for a peacock :)

Stephanie Fermor Behind the buttons I used wool blend felt circles, I originally started with tear drop shapes but circles worked better with the buttons. The idea for the peacock is off a postcard I saw at a local card shop. I am going to blog about how I made it next week so will add link when I have that online.
Thanyalak Chaisuwan very pretty..what a cool idea! :) Love it!
Kristin G This is just lovely, I want one!!
Jill I LOVE this peacock - looking forward to reading how you made it!
Stephanie Fermor I finally wrote up my post about the tote, read it here http://toastiestudio.b...

Thanyalak Chaisuwan very cool bag :) I like the colors..fun and positive.
Jill Thanks everyone!

Kadie Arrington That is really cool Adrianne! Even my 12 year old likes it. :)
Jennifer Salter That is awesome!
Keren Duchan It's gorgeous! It has so much character. The colors you chose are perfect for the design. I am envious.
Some of my appliqué shapes fused to the denim. Photo taken at night, so the lighting is not the best. Next step, stitch the flowers on and add some leaves. Still deciding whether to add extra colour with the appliqué stitching, (as if it doesn't already have enough colour... LOL!!!), or have the stitching blend in with the flowers.

The I, Robot tote
1 like 4 comments
Thanyalak Chaisuwan I like this one too..did you use stitching or applique?
Keren Duchan robots are cool :-) The robot might be printed on the bag, or maybe it is a machine satin stitch. Do you have the link to the website where you found it?
Juanita McLellan I printed the cover of the book, "I, Robot" and sketched the robot onto the bag.... then satin stitched over the drawing....
Eddie Landreth Very cool!
Another tote... Asimov
4 likes 6 comments 2 repins
Juanita McLellan It's just a copy of a line drawing of Asimov... then stitched on top.
Keren Duchan awesome! Artsy.
Rikka @ Ricochet and Away! I love old Sci-Fi!!! This just rocks! I am going to my a Heinlein tote! Stranger in a Strange Land......very inspiring--thanks!
Pam Very effective! What stitch have you used on the hair?
Juanita McLellan On the hair: I have a stomping foot (it kinda bounces up and down on the fabric) and you can freeform the stitching beneath the foot.
Quick sketch of flowers I *may* use as appliqués on my tote.

I started quilting my tote this evening on my longarm. As you can see I added a band to the top of the side and the green at the bottom of the pic will be a band across the bottom of the side that wraps underneath to the other side. I've got this one side quilted now, so ready to move forward to quilt that green area now. I like how it's turning out!

Thanyalak Chaisuwan wow!! this is truly stunning! it will be a very very long time till I can quilt like this..but this is definitely a GREAT inspiration!
Keren Duchan I'm curious as to how you manually control the longarm and get it to quilt like that. I read up a bit on wikipedia and I'll look up some videos and read further back on your blog. Awesome! I bet there isn't a longarm in the whole country though... One day I'll visit the USA again and I'll surely go see one! :-)
Eddie Landreth Basically the sewing head is like a sewing machine on wheels that rides on a track so that you can move it in any direction over the quilt top that is stretched taut on the frame. So you can do some pretty precise quilting with it and it's much easier than trying to quilt something through a regular sewing machine. The best analogy that I've ever heard is that quilting through a regular machine is like moving a piece of paper under a pencil to write something. Whereas with a longarm you are moving a pencil across a piece of paper to write. There's a world of difference in the ease and control you have with it.
Keren Duchan I am curious to see how you manually operate it. I'll search youtube for videos :-) Anyhow it sounds grand!! I quilted a few baby quilts with a regular Bernina Activa 240 sewing machine, and boy does that quilt give you a hard time moving it around!
Adrianne Surian Eddie, this is amazing. Excellent work!
and here's the inside of my tote: patch pocket for cellphone and magnetic snap. I'm very pleased with the lining color :-)

Christine Wilhelm oh wow, this is just stunning!! and I love how the back is a little more free!
Thanyalak Chaisuwan very pretty! I love everything about this tote..you did an excellent job, Keren! :)
Eddie Landreth It turned out beautiful!!! I really like the pattern and the reverse applique.
Jill I love the design! Such a smart bag!
Adrianne Surian Keren, I loved this pattern that you used so much that I used it too. LOVE this bag, it's perfect!
Here's a progress photo of my tote. I have the shapes fused in place on one side (the same design will be on the other side). I fused the shapes in place with Shades SoftFuse, which is an ultra light-weight fusible. After I fuse the piece on the other panel I'll quilt them and then put it all together. It's coming along!

Thanyalak Chaisuwan wow..very pretty!
Eddie Landreth It's based on a design from a book by Blackbird Designs (Barb Adams and Alma Allen). I changed it up some, though, but that's where the inspiration came from.
Pam Love the way the black and red stand out.
Juanita McLellan That is sooooo cute! It's all I expected, and then an extra serving with strawberries on top!
Keren Duchan It's beautiful. I love the simplistic design, and I love your choice of color. The design reminds me of Japanese minimalist art. We have so much to learn from you quilting-wise!
Here's the fabric I bought for my challenge tote. The orange is a tad more yellowish in reality, and it will be for the bag itself. I will use the very pale pink for the reverse applique design. The sea green fabric will serve as the lining. Retro colors, anyone? Total cost of fabric: 45 NIS ($12 US)

Tie-dye solids

Eddie Landreth Wow, those are really nice looking fabrics! And they look like solids to me! :)
Keren Duchan Such lovely happy colors! Should be interesting to see what they'll look like in your tote.
Rikka @ Ricochet and Away! Agreed. They look solid to me. I'm all for using up what you have in your stash.
Thanyalak Chaisuwan Thanks! I'm glad I can use them...so now I can start the project...everyone is doing so great..I'd better hurry up. :)
Pam Lovely bright fabrics. I do love tie dyed fabrics, perhaps because I've tie dyed t-shirts in the past.
here's a scrap piece of reverse applique using the Moroccan Inlay pattern. I'm thinking I should stitch farther away from the pattern outline, to get more color. And I might use a not-neutral color for the outer fabric. Maybe I'll choose a different design as well, or use this design at a larger scale. I don't know, I need to think about it. What's your opinion?

Keren Duchan from sewlavie.com
RikkaAndKeren After seeing the pic of the same design printed on the yellow fabric, I agree that you should stitch further away from the lines to reveal mre fabric underneath. As for colors, I like what you have. It's a strong combo.
RikkaAndKeren I was supposed to logged in as Rikka to make that comment. >_<
Christine Wilhelm Wow, that is so darn cool! Funny, I'm browsing my newest pins... and saw this and knew it was tote challenge related!! I do like the pattern a lot!
Pam I like the colour combination, Keren. The neutral colour makes the red/orange stand out more.
I made a stencil from the Moroccan Inlay design, and couldn't help myself from printing it a bit on a piece of scrap fabric :-)

I was thinking of trying reverse applique to make this Moroccan inlay design. I wonder if it'll work!

Keren Duchan Magnificent! I love it! I love the claws and detailing on the wings. Reminds me of the style of your quilts.
