These are movies that I think are great overall dance movies. There are films that had great dance scenes, but were terrible movies (i.e. "You Got Served"). And films with great stories but crappy dancing (i.e. "Swingers.") These ones below in my opinion succeed as good films and depict excellent dancing.
Beat Street (1984): Of all of the "breakdance" movies in the 80s that came out, Beat Street is the most watchable, best scripted, with the best hip-hop dancing.
Tap (1989): Sweet story, but you should see it for the legends of tap in the film including Sammy Davis Jr, Harold Nicholas, Sandman Sims, and a young Savion Glover.

Mad Hot Ballroom (2005): adorable story about the "dancing in the schools" project in NYC public elementary schools.

Singin in the Rain (1952): Gene Kelly, Donald O'conner and Debbie Reynolds at their best. Sweet story and some wonderful dancing.

Opus Jazz (2010): contemporary ballerinas at NY City Ballet re-vision Jerome Robert's ground-breaking "Opus Jazz" choreography in settings all over NYC.
Planet B-boy (2008): The best documentary about breaking / b-boying ever. Great cinematography, compelling personal stories from around the world.
Shall We Dance (1996): melancholy movie about transformative power of ballroom dance, set in Japan. And I must admit the Hollywood remake is not terrible.
