14 January 2011 I have this thing about owls ... they wake me up almost every day of the year ... unfortunately often around 4am! But that's ok cuz I love hearing them hoot. I grew up with owls in the trees by our house in the country and it's the one thing I always missed when I lived in the city ... so it's wonderful to be able to have them in our trees in the 'burbs. With so many owl fabric and patterns out there right, I've been dying to create something. I'm putting this one on my wish 'I had time to make this' list!

13 January 2011 On a snowy Minnesota today, this is the perfect thing to remind me that Summer always comes around again!!

12 January 2011 It may be just a dime to you but do you know all the other uses for it? This morning I used one to tighten the light switch in the bathroom. And the other day it was the perfect fit for taking the throat plate off my sewing machine so I could clean it. You can barely use it to plug a parking meter any more so it's nice to know what other handy things you can do with a dime!
11 January 2011 (or 01.11.11) Yo-ho! Yo-ho! a pirate's life for me! That's the only thing that's been going through my head since I saw this box waiting to be unpacked at Kowalski's. Shiver me timbers ... what could be inside? Now I'm feelin' a need to got to Disneyland ...

10 January 2011 I know my grocery store carries a wide range of unusual products but this one just takes the cake! The slogan just makes me laugh. But then you look at the box to the right and you know there has to be some deeper meaning! Fun times food shopping tonight.

sewmamasew That's hilarious.
Roseann Kermes The convo on my FB page was even funnier!
Ralph Nuara this crapola totally stopped me dead in my tracks at kowalski's!
January 9, 2011 Who moved my cheese? No wait ... wrong story. Who drank my juice? Last week I sampled some of the orange juice at Kowalski's and now I can't quit thinking of it. I've been buying the small bottles and hoarding them ... hiding them ... they are soooo delicious but a little bit pricey. But someone found my stash and I'm missing a bottle!! What am I going to do???
January 8, 2011 There's nothing better than ending the day with a meal at Rudy's! Had a great Hot Apple Pie drink to start and the walleye sandwich with cole slaw for dinner. My friend Jane and her family was there too so it was fun to see her. It was cold outside but warm and happy inside!

January 7, 2011 From the inside looking out, it seems like any other Winter day ... those tiny snowflakes falling that indicate the temps are down so you should probably wear mittens. Kind of gray looking but it is January after all. But then you step outside! The wind pushed me and my Starbucks coffee right across the parking lot at Kowalski's ... a little farther and I could have been wind surfing on White Bear Lake! Shoveling the sidewalk at the Cottage not a piece of cake. And then I had to fill up the gas tank ... pulled up that hood and didn't care about it flattening my perky do. The kid at the next pump had on a sweatshirt, a knit hat ... no gloves or mittens. That had to be cold! So now I'm in the hideout finishing a quilt and thinking about a Valentine's project I have on my mind. Not looking forward to going back outside!

Kelly Ann Richardson I'd go outside...in April....
Roseann Kermes We're tougher here ... and meaner.
January 6, 2011 I have been in love with Janome sewing machines for such a long time! My 6600 sews like a rocket. I cleaned it up over the weekend and it's even more perfect. This Summer I upgraded our store machine ... can't believe how much thread having an automatic cutter saves. I've got a Platinum Gem that I lug around to things and one of my employees is housing another Memory Craft because she sews a lot at home for me. I guess I do have a love affair with Janome!

Debra Life I have a janome machine, although I use a juki at work, that one has an automatic cutter. I would love a bigger machine if the price was right
Terry Analore I have the 6500 which is like this. Love it! Also have a smaller Janome for class. Tey're the best!
January 5, 2011 Well there's always something magical happening in my life. For instance ... when I got in the car, a perfect 1/4" snowflake landed on the sleeve of my jacket. It stayed on there the entire way to Kowalski's but melted as soon as I crossed over their threshold. Which shows two things ... that's its cold in Minnesota and my car never warmed up enough to make it melt ... and that the grocery store is a warm, and inviting, place. Wonder what other magical things will happen?

January 4, 2011 Ok ... so here's my quirky little secret ... I can ONLY write with a Papermate mechanical pencil. Ever. The lead is skinny and doesn't break ... I always have a sharp point ... I can twist out more if I need it ... the erasers are nice ... they fit in my hand ... and I like their happy, cheerful color! I buy them at Office Max by the boxes ... everyone at the Cottage likes them too so I run through a bunch of them. They are held in all kinds of containers so that I always have one within reach. In addition to writing notes or drawing designs or quilt blocks, I use them to transfer stitching designs on to fabric ... my favorite tool for doing that. So there you have it ... my secret is out!

DeAnna-Marie Prather So how do you transfer stitching designs onto fabric? Do you just draw through the paper?
January 2, 2011 Started out sunny but now it's cloudy and snowing again but that's ok ... we're trying to fill up White Bear Lake so let it snow! The thing about living in Minnesota is that you constantly have to have an optimistic viewpoint ... especially in Winter. So when I was driving by Mrs Peltier's sweet little cottage, the sight of Adirondack chairs and a cheerful bucket of geraniums in her yard just made me smile!

January 2, 2011 It's cold it's dark and it's Minnesota in Winter. And it's been a rough afternoon working on my shop hop quilt ... under a lot of pressure to get it done so the quilter can do her magic and every thing under the Sun is going wrong with it. I finally had to walk away from it when I noticed I was getting a headache from clenching my teeth. Yike! When I need to destress I tend to go to etsy and peek around at things. I always love to look at my friend Chrisi's stuff because those big happy smiles on her dolls make everything better!

January 1, 2011 ... New Year's Day always is a reflecting day. Recently, I realized that the one thing I seem to be missing lately is the freedom to sit down and create. I found this pix of my first larger wool penny rug that I designed and sold at the Cottage a dozen years ago. I remember each step of the project ... even where I was at when I made it ... but mostly the excitement of creating something out of my mind. I want to recapture the fun of making things!
