Doors to Maulbronn, the best preserved medieval monastery north of the Alps. Located in Germany’s Black Forest region, it was founded in 1147. Four centuries later, in 1556, it was converted into a Protestant school. Illustrious attendees include astronomer Johannes Kepler, who discovered that the Earth and other planets revolve around the sun in elliptical orbits, and Hermann Hesse, who wrote Siddhartha and Steppenwolf and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946 for The Glass Bead Game
