paintings, drawings, mixed media in two dimensions.Things I seem to like: color fields, abstracted shapes, flattened modelling, narrow depth of field, use of patterns, obscured faces. attention to the surface of the painting. I would proud to live with any of these pieces in my home, day in and day out. In other words, covety covety.

One of Van Gogh's most poignant works. He painted this while he was in the insane asylum. He received word that his beloved brother Theo had had a son, and he painted the almond tree blossoming outside his window for his baby nephew, so that he would have something beautiful to look at all his life. (I did not know that. And I painted a copy of this and have had it for 15 yrs)

Claire Pedroza He actually painted the branches and blossoms first, and when he got word that the baby was a boy, he painted the background blue.
Jasmine Hnedak Did not know the story behind this and it's one of my favorites of all his works!
Amylynn McDevitt I didn't know the story behind this, but I saw it at the Vincent Musueum in Amsterdam. It's simply beautiful!
Leah Mayhew-Lomo I also saw this in Amsterdam and was blown away by the beauty! One of my all time favorite paintings!

Self Portraits of a Declining Brain "Utermohlen spent the last twelve years of his life battling Alzheimer’s, a degenerative neurological disease that slowly took away his ability to do what he was most passionate about: his art. As he slowly lost control over his movements, his composition and techniques changed as he was forced to abandon oils for easier-to-use watercolours and pencils. By the end he couldn’t even recognise his own paintings." -alchymista
