I adore skimming over these portraits. They are so evocative and powerful. Almost too beautiful for beauty.

Monique Guzman I love this! It's a Frida Kahlo inspired painting! In fact, all they did was insert themselves in it! Fantastic!

New York artist Michael Mapes creates elaborate specimen boxes by dissecting photographs and then compartmentalizing individual fragments within plastic bags, glass vials, magnifiers, in gelatin capsules and on insect pins.

Allison Goss There is a Neel portrait at our local museum, and every time my grandmother sees it she cringes and I let out a dreamy sigh. It's kind of funny how her paintings effect people!

La Bella Principessa (possible forgery attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci)

Susan Valentin I watched a show on this. They traced it back to Leonardo Da Vinci for sure. It is a page from a book that was cut out. It is a wedding portrait of the italian princess that Leonardo worked for at the time. Don't remember the name of the family. The actual book that documents the families life that was filled in (like a scrapbook) is actually in Poland and the page is definately cut out and they matched it up.
Rowena Murillo Well that's cool.
Becky Tidswell I watched that show too. I used to organize life drawing classes at the Ashmolean Museum with Sarah Simblet, the artist reproducing the work in the program. So cool to see this pinned!
