And some I didn't learn until I read this today. I did not know why my sauces with skim milk curdled, but not the cream ones. Now I do.

Tomato Paste Saver: Most recipes call for only a small portion of tomato paste -- you use a tablespoon or two, and the rest invariably goes to waste. To save the remainder: Carefully open both ends of the can with a can opener. Remove one metal end, and discard it. Leave the other in place. Wrap the entire can in plastic wrap, and freeze overnight. The next day, use the metal end to push the frozen paste out the open end. Discard can, tightly rewrap unused portion, and store in freezer up to ...

We remove a lot of slivers in the summer time! Remove a splinter with baking soda is best for tiny, invisible splinters. Using a baking soda paste it will cause the skin to swell and push the splinter out.

Jenna Mowery-Thompson You aren't supposed to rinse eggs, the shells are very porous and bacteria can be forced when rinsed.

Christina Capezza Ginger Honey Lemon Tea works great. Just give a big chunk of ginger a little smash. Throw it in a pot of water and boil the heck out of it. Add generous amount of lemon and honey. A whole pot of it will last you almost all day.

Profile picture of Michelle Parlette

Michelle Parlette @Amy Korbel, yes, it really does work. My Great Aunt Eda chased me around the house one time trying to make me take it. I did and woke up after a good long sleep (lol!) much better. There is probably a process in the body when you metabolize the alcohol that helps flush out the gunk or something. Ginger is fantastic when you're sick so probably ginger brandy would be better, but I've not tried it.

Paleo Diet and Understanding How FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT

69 likes 5 comments 176 repins

Profile picture of Kate Carr

Kate Carr I've been toying with paleo recipes for the past 6 months and had great results with weight loss, but I'm not 100% on board (it's a HUGE change for me even after slowly altering my diet over the past year) yet. The mindset definitely makes you think more about what you're eating, though.

Profile picture of Maggie Hernandez

Maggie Hernandez Thanks for posting! This is a very reasonable concept. I studied health in college and started thinking that we need to go back to the caveman/woman way of eating, except for the whole un-cooked meat thing.

Profile picture of Rowena Murillo

Rowena Murillo I'm not actually interested in losing weight, but I am interested in eating more healthily. And I am also very concerned with the seeming neurosis Americans have surrounding food, diet, weight and health.

Profile picture of Heidi Doggett

Heidi Doggett I find the idea of a "Paleo" diet interesting. If we were really eating the way our ancestors ate, we'd eat primarily herbs, nuts, and roots, berries in season, insects, and occasionally gorge ourselves on meat. Also, we've been growing food for 10,000 years, which is enough time for us to adapt at least a bit to eating grains and dairy. However, I think the Paleo diet mostly seems like a very healthy thing. I've discovered that soy, wheat, and dairy have been making me sick pretty much all my life, and I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet (meant to baalnce the Omega 3:Omega 6 ratio) to deal with some of the health problems that have resulted.

Prepare pancake mix as stated on the box.  Then pour all the batter into a large ziploc bag and freeze!  Once you are ready to use it, take it out of the freezer to thaw, snip off a corner of the bag, and you have quick & mess free pancake mix!  It's a great way to use up a few cups of milk before it expires!
