Monique Williams And this is why I'm known as "the crier"!!!! Thank you Zooey for turning it into a beautiful thing--instead of being a "hot mess" thing which is what I often refer to it as!
Kellie Boylon This is exactly me and I am always being made fun of for being a softie.
Heidi Doggett This is a neat thought. but I think that to reach maximum neatness, it needs to be applied to men and women both. Women are told that they're emotional, and then told that's a flaw. Men are told they're not emotional, because being emotional is a flaw. I don't think either sentiment is true. We all have emotions that we need to be able to express in healthy and appropriate ways, and the expression of those emotions should be valued in everyone.
Sherri Rainbolt Pressley I've learned to embrace my "emotional" self. I cry for joy and sorrow and wear my tears proudly and unapologetically!
Rowena Murillo Heidi, good point. Sometimes I think that all the focus on women's studies and girl's empowerment forgets that boys need to figure out the power fluctuations in this culturally changeable society. What does it mean to be a man today? It's just as important as "what does it mean to be a woman today."

Jennifer Breuer Beutin Agreed with all of it except the high speed trains... why go there?
Jessica Sawyer Because the entire world is ahead of us in the transportation industry. Our roads and interstates and old trains are just not cutting it anymore. So maybe that's why it was added in there....
Kelsey Yantzer Yes the rest of the world is way ahead of us in transportation. Americans are too attached to their precious cars... And oil.
Michelle Platt Does anyone really need a private jet? High speed trains are efficient and allows people to meet new people and have conversations.
Heather Dixon high speed train = 300 mph (tops) Private jet = 700 mph They're both good for different things :|

labergerebasque ""We should try to create the society each of us would want if we didn't know in advance who we'd be."
Rebecca Banerjee Frankly, equality is unachievable. I have worked hard, sacrificed much to be who I am, have what I earned, and I am not about to share it with someone who sits in a park, waving signs around complaining about how unfair the corporate world is. The corporations are doing everything within the scope of the laws laid out. Y greedy, short-sighted politicians.
Adam Peetz Rebecca, that's not equality. Equality is taking from those that have to give to those that don't so everyone has an equal amount. I'm not a fan of equality and find it immoral and perverse. You're right about companies and politicians though, just don't forget the currupt average american who asks "what can this country do for me?"
labergerebasque ...or corporations who lobby hard to hide behind laws that exploit people for financial benefit. There is a difference between welfare and rampant capitalism without social responsibility. Painting our homes is fine, but we shouldn't be able to dispose of the paint just ANYWHERE because we could afford to buy it.
Rebecca Banerjee Adam, who gets to decide? I know plenty of people who sit about bemoaning their lot in life while collecting handouts from the government. Meanwhile, people I associate with are out there, working hard to make things happen. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and I learned to do without while we struggled to make a living. The problem lies with the corporations who fleece the country to enrich themselves by yet another billion.
Blessing bags (keep in car to give to homeless). I will have to do this.

Ashley May Wyatt and maybe a bible! :)
Hannah Mattox def a bible! Amen!
Megan Buhler Great idea! I have done something similar - my bags don't have as many personal care items (in fact, there are a few things I might add after seeing this post) but my bags do have some additional items - a list of homeless resources, a bottle of gatorade (doesn't freeze in my car), and a pair of handwarmers. My bags are described here: http://inneedofcomfort...
Tamara Walt have enjoyed doing this with my kids and instead of cash we hand these out especially when they come to our vehicle looking for handouts
Jasmine Allen Awesome idea!

Meghan Dahn the word for that smell is petrichor (the smell of rain + ground)
“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches. May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty. When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer. Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age. Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit. May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers. Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait. O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed. And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it. And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes. Amen.” -Tina Fey
