Squirrelgrrrl Places like Zou Zou's are special. This area used to have many more quirky coffee shops before the days of Starbucks. My favorite was the Gypsy Cafe on Fourth in Ann Arbor.
Rowena Murillo I'm still exploring michigan, since I don't get out much, but I do like Zou Zou's
The DIA has been a beacon of culture for the Detroit area for well over a century. The museum covers 658,000 square feet that includes more than 100 galleries. The DIA's collection is among the top six in the United States, comprising a multicultural and multinational survey of human creativity from prehistory through the 21st century. (From DIA.org) I need to go.

Pablo Contreras I´ve been there only once and it was enough to bring my tears out... I want to go again and again and again and again....
Squirrelgrrrl I've been a member for a good long time now. They have family nights every Friday if your kids are younger.
Emily Walz I've been to art museums all over the world, and while as a Michigan native I may be biased, the DIA remains one of my favorites. Its holdings are unbelievable.
Rowena Murillo I will have to go someday. I live nearer to Ann Arbor, but my favorite museum is The Metropolitan in nyc. I miss museums. From what you all say, this one sounds great.
Squirrelgrrrl You can see Van Gogh's self portrait with straw hat, Whistler's Nocturne in Black and Gold, a huge collection of Nortwest coast and Hopi art, The Diego Rivera Court, a Gothic chapel brought over from France and reconstructed in the Kresge court, and an impressive collection of 20th century craft objects.

Gandy Dancer; Ann Arbor. Seafood restaurant located in an 1886 Renaissance stone train station. "In 1940 the train de-railed and came through the station. Today, when the train rolls by we ring a bell in remembrance of the people who died in 1940 and applaud because the train made it past safely,"

Claudia Eubanks Awwww. I found a few of these Petoskey stones when we were on the beach in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park this past summer. We are from Texas and have absolutely no ties in Michigan. went there on a whim and it was definitely one of the best vacations ever.

Jeanne Maddaleni Mackinaw Island is like being in a fairy tale.
Jeanne Maddaleni I suggest you start at the southern most part of the coast, stop at every little town along the coast, and finish it off with Mackinaw Island. Guaranteed a great trip. Be sure to stop at Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Petoskey Stones, the state stone of Michigan, are fossilized coral resulting from glaciation and are often polished to reveal the beautiful pattern of the 6 sided coral colonies. #Geology #Petoskey_Stone #Michigan

Joan Melnick To find the locations of the fairy doors, check outhttp://urban-fairies.com/TOURMAP.html
Rowena Murillo How could you have missed them @Polly Neill? They are everywhere. My kids love them. They put pennies in them for the fairies when they see them.

Squirrelgrrrl Everything that doesn't sell gets 10% knocked off the price every month until it is 50% off the original price. You can stalk an item you like, and see if the price drops. :)

Rowena Murillo My kids love that one.
Laurie Smith Love it!
Larissa Heap This is my favorite. I always get down on my hands and knees like a crazy person to peer in the windows to see what the fairies have been up to inside.
Claudia Eubanks What's the story on these fairy doors?? never seen one until I stumbled onto this Pinboard.
Larissa Heap Ooh! @Claudia Eubanks! Check out urban-fairies.com!
Look carefully!...this installment is in the Folklore & Fairtales section of the Ann Arbor District Library. The urban fairy library door is a teal colored double door in the end of a book case of fairy tales. The uncirculated books have windows in them!!

Kim Batchelor yup! sounds about right :)
Lucy Hough Totally true. Are you moving to Michigan/recently moved here?
Katelyn Wollet Oo! I'm a michigander hehe :P
Rowena Murillo I've been in Michigan for about a year and a half and I haven't had the opportunity to take advantage of many of the great things here yet. I have encountered Euchre, and have not been able to make total sense of it yet. I once translated 'soda' into 'pop' (but my mom was from western PA, so that's not so weird for me.) The rest I'm still learning.
Maria Carroll I was raised in Michigan. Went to California in 1963. I can still remember not knowing how to eat a taco or an avacodo. The lady at the restuarant looked at me like I was crazy when i said what kind of pop do you have? Wonderful childhood raised in Detroit.
