A natural tick deterrent for human use, to try this year: 1 part tea tree oil to 2 parts water in a spray bottle {My dad didn't know but was bitten by a tick, one of my cousins the same thing, and they both suffer from limes disease now -- my cousin was seriously ill because of it. :( It's really wise to take precautions!!!}
