The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition (ISBN-13: 978-0-9769907-9-6) is a children’s picture book written by American mother and daughter Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell, and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. The Elf on the Shelf comes in a keepsake box that features the hardbound book and a small pixie scout elf. Written in rhyme with accompanying watercolor illustrations, it is a Christmas tale of how Santa knows who is naughty and nice. The described tradition of The Elf on the Shelf usually begins around Thanksgiving and lasts until Christmas Eve, when the elves return to the North Pole until the next holiday season. Have fun planning holiday mischief for your elf!

Goodbye Message - ..."My time here with you has come to an end. I have enjoyed making you smile and watching you search for me. I have also sent special messages back to Santa for you. I saw you guys baking cookies and I just could not resist this chocolate any more. Sorry for the mess! I will miss you both and I hope I get to come back next year. I love you guys. Santa said he would lift my power so you could both touch me one time, but only one time each and then put me back. I can't wait for your hug! Love Clyde" Going to have to remember this!
