Organize Kids Stuff

Here's a collection of some of my favorite ways of organizing kids stuff. I hope you'll find some inspiration on how to organize your own kids stuff.

Toy Chest Storage - It's difficult to build a train track when you can find only four rails. A compartmentalized toy chest can help. Stencils on the front of each drawer help kids find toys quickly.

Monogram Corkboard - Make one letter or spell out your child's full name for a fun way to display memos and mementos. Discover more kids room decorating and organizing tips and ideas @ kidsroomdecoratin...

Picture Rail - This month your kid is into dinosaurs; next month, trains or outer space may be his obsession. How can you decorate a room to reflect his growing curiosity without completely changing the decor? The answer is bulletin boards. A bulletin-board picture rail hung in a child's room or play area lets you proudly show off kids' artwork while keeping tape and thumbtacks off the walls.

Zippered Plastic Bag as Pencil Case - Always have your pencils and PTA notes (or toddler’s crayons and doodle paper) in the same spot: Just punch holes along the non-zippered edge of a sandwich bag, then click it into a three-ring binder.

Playing card storage solution - Organize playing card games using empty baby wipe containers. Simply cut out the name of the card game from the original box and tape onto the recycled container. Discover more kids room decorating and organizing tips and ideas @ kidsroomdecoratin...

A Crafty Family - Got creative kids? Then you know organizing art supplies is a must. Try these ideas for organizing, storing, and inspiring from designer Ayse Boneval of The Container Store in Rockville, Maryland, who designed this family crafts room for a local showhouse.

Rotating Art Gallery - Display new artwork whenever you want with bright-color clipboards mounted on the wall. Paint a block of color (make sure to use low-VOC paint) to set apart this display area even more. Of course, these glass jars, metal clipboards, fiber baskets, and wood cubbies are all nonallergenic.

Unconventional Storage - Don't dismiss an unusual storage unit as unusable. This part bookcase, part dresser is a perfect addition to any bedroom for storing books on the upper shelf and pretty boxes on the deeper lower shelf. Hooked on Storage - Run out of storage space in your jewelry box? Use hooks mounted on the side of a dresser or wall. Hang the hooks sideways (so the hook is parallel to the floor) so you can hang more jewelry from your new storage solution. Have Fun with Storage - Make it fun to stay organized. Treat kids' closets to practical touches that mimic their room's decorating theme or play to their favorite interests. This young sports fan, for instance, has room in his walk-in closet to display favorite ball caps. A decorative border of helmets and balls lines the ceiling. And he can even change sneakers on a locker room-style bench. Be creative and play up the theme, installing a basketball hoop above a clothes hamper, for example.

Here's great idea for using pails and a curtain rod or towel rack to hang small or large storage pails on your kids walls. Depending on your needs you could install a large rod and pails along a playroom wall or position a small towel rack and small pails over your kids desk for keeping homework supplies handy. Use 'S' hooks to hang the pails.
