"Four Little Kittens", a Golden Book, starring Buzz, Fuzz, Suzz, and Agamemnon. This was definitely the most-requested story at bedtime at my grandmother's house. Remember, @Winzer Van Delden ?

The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein. Beautiful, sad, and pure truth.

There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, by Louis Sachar. The "Holes" authors original hit novel. Follow Bradley Chalkers on his hilarious and painful journey through the 5th grade.

Taylor Roberts Just read this with my 4th graders. So funny.
The magical, wonderful prequel to The Lord of the Rings. It's a dangerous business, going out your front door.
A Wrinkle in Time, by Madline L'Engle. Time travel and a giant, pulsating brain as the villian. What more does a kid need?
The Wishing Tree, by Ruth Chew. This was my favorite book as a kid, and probably the first "novel" that I ever read. I must have read it 100 times. A brother and sister find a magical tree in a nearby park that is a portal to a magic world.

Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. Classic tale of a boy named Billy and his two trusty dogs, Old Dan and Little Anne, coming of age together in the Ozark Mountains.

Weird Wolf, by Margery Cuyler. I bought this at a book fair at school back in the early 90s. The kid thinks he's turning into a warewolf, and starts hanging out in a McDonald's dumpster every night eating leftover hamburgers. Awesome.
One-Eyed Cat, by Paula Fox. Now this was a really good one. A kid takes a shot at a shadow with a rifle, then starts seeing this cat with one eye hanging around the neighborhood. Guilt and maturity ensue.

Where the Pirates Are, by Tom Townsend. If you went to public elementary school in Texas back in the 80s, you probably read this.
