Gendered Housework/Parenting
Pop culture portrays housework and childcare as almost exclusively women's responsibility; whereas, in real life, women still do the majority of this labor, even when she has a husband and works full time. This board collects data and media on this theme. For analysis, click through any image or visit Sociological Images at www.thesocietypages.org/socimages.

Shannon Wendt Domestic martyrdom? 'Womens Lib' failed! For whatever reason all your pins are up on top when I look under the education tab... What you're trying to point out, is silly. Our parents generation was lied to by the Womens Lib movement of the 70's. The lie that women should be the same as men, or that womens lives are wasted when they're spent in the home. That the only way to be fulfilled was do the same things that men do. The fact of our anthropology is that women and men have equal dignity, but entirely different strengths, callings, and vocations. Our mothers were told that they could have it all. That they could have a career and a family. They were working mothers, and everyone suffered. Working Mothers meant latchkey kids being raised by the boob tube, unhealthy overprocessed dinners, and missed opportunities. Women felt the pressure or necessity to work outside the home, and it drained them, spreading them too thin. They felt empty and full of regret. Not able to give 100% at work b/c of family obligations, and not able to give her children everything they needed b/c of all the ...

eflebeth "Stay at home Moms really are changing the world around them." – how true. for a radius of how many meters? a beautiful home, a well tended garden, and good relations with the neighbours.
Daria Kester Ugh, so we can't even enjoy a pin board w/o getting misogynistic trolls. :(
Firinel Turner I do wish that people didn't need to resort to either or scenarios. Stay at home parents (whichever parent that family might chose, and for whatever their own reasons) ARE fulfilling an important job. It is possible for any person to be a feminist, regardless of what their job is, including 'primary caretaker', and I wish people would stop implying otherwise.
