Pretty Drink Garnishes Martinis, mixed drinks, and champagne get a shot of glamour with all-natural fruit and vegetable garnishes. Read on for how-to's from celeb mixologist Alex Ott.
Sprinkle in Some Sparkle Pair with: champagne, or any clear or smooth-textured drink (as long as it doesn't contain pulp or ice) 1. Choose a color of Luster Dust, an edible yet flavorless powder ($2.95, amazon.com) that comes in 20 shades. 2. Add a pinch of the powder to each drink, stir, and voilà -- your drinks will have a beautiful iridescent sparkle.
Top It with a Cherry 1. Slice an apple vertically into 1/2-inch-thick pieces. 2. Cut a cocktail cherry-size hole (about 1-inch diameter) in the slice: Tap the tip of the knife in and out of the slice (imagine a sewing machine's movement) while rotating it. Pop out circle. 3. Insert a cherry into the hole. Make a small vertical slit in the slice and place on rim of glass.
Twist Your Citrus 1. Peel an orange in one long, 1-inch-wide piece. The trick: Adjust your blade if the strip starts to get too narrow. 2. Wrap the peel around your finger, pinch, and pull off. 3. Hold to keep the rose shape, then cut a vertical slit through the layers. Slide the rose on the glass and insert a fresh bay leaf between the layers.
