In her youth, artist Suzanne Valadon modeled for Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec. Later her own drawings were admired and encouraged by Degas. Many of Valadon's paintings of nudes reflect the sitter's sense of being watched. "Reclining Nude" (1928) is in the Metropolitan Museum's Robert Lehman collection.
