"Before his son Samuel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about the inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Shot and produced over four years, Habib’s award-winning documentary film, Including Samuel, chronicles the Habib family’s efforts to include Samuel in every facet of their lives. The film honestly portrays his family’s hopes and struggles as well as the experiences of four other individuals with disabilities and their families. Including Samuel is a highly personal, passionately photographed film that captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion." www.includingsamu...

Brilliant - when dying Easter eggs, put the eggs inside wire whisks for little ones. So much easier than balancing it on a spoon.

- To help a child with SPD receive soothing tactile stimulation, and reduce fidgety behavior, apply a strip of Velcro under their desk to provide them with an instant source of tactile input. Simple, but it can be effective! - - Pinned by @PediaStaff – ht.ly/63sNt for all (hundreds of) pediatric therapy pins

healingandempower... A powerhouse book for every parent of a disabled child or adult child. "While chronic sorrow is conceptualized as being normal and understandable, there are no formal and customary social supports and expectations, rituals or recognitions of the catastrophic loss, since the person who is the source of the loss continues to live. Adaptations are usually drastic and disorienting. Simultaneously and absurdly, the person who is the source of the sorrow may at times be socially unrecognized, as if he or she does not exist. If there is no existence, there is no loss; therefore the grief is unacknowledged and unaddressed by society." p. 29

Listen to My Words with Your Heart: theirwordstheirwa... "Did you ever wonder HOW your special needs child learns? Why it takes longer for some simple tasks and quicker for more complex tasks? I have. And I have found a wonderful book for you all to read. I bought mine on Amazon.com and read it in one night. And I must say that it has opened my eyes to what my own child with special needs is going through."

Teach your kids to work! 43 chores young children can (AND SHOULD) do (18 months to 7 years old)
Calm Down Jar. It is really easy to make. The goal is that when they are feeling out of control, they shake the jar, then sit and watch the glitter settle in the water. When the glitter settles, they can get up. This one is a really great technique to use in lieu of timeout.
