This is a form of Victorian photography called Memento Mori. I find it fascinating how they often take the deceased and make them appear asleep. Often with children this was the only photo they were ever able to get of their child. I find the ones with the coffins heartbreaking, and these are enough to make you cry. It is a slightly macabre interest, but I find some aspects and rituals of history fascinating.
