Books, The Good Stuff

I love a fairy tale retelling and this one was wonderfully imaginative. Another strong debut!

A solid fantasy debut. I rarely review on this board, but I will say that I wasn't as into this book as I am other fantasy reads because of the strong religious themes. I'm not a strongly religious person so those aspects of the story didn't resonate. No judgment upon the talent or sweetness of the author (who is obviously talented and seems very sweet), but this wasn't my personal favorite brand of fantasy. Take or leave that, I wouldn't have finished if it wasn't good reading.

Incarceron. Effing brilliant. I want to write like Ms. Fisher when I grow up. That is all.

How did I miss this book as a kid. I would have gobbled it up and begged for more. Amazing fantasy read. Now I must go back and read every McKinley I've missed. *fangirls*

Even better than the first one. Loved this hero. His angst was so real, pitch-perfect.

Why did I wait so long to read this?! Wonderful, emotional read.

Another great read by Smith-Ready. Love the lady and her work.

Hysterical and terrifying with an anti-hero I adored. Pete Hautman has a new fan. Can't wait to pick up his other stuff!

An underachieving heroine I really felt for. A totally sweet, heartfelt read. (And it really took me back to the high school days. MY high school days. The music, the fashion, everything was very 1996-97. This might date the book for some, but for me it was just perfect. I knew the words to every song mentioned.)

As amazing as I'd hoped it would be. Wonderful sci-fi read. (There was some content that buzzed my "Is that okay for YA button" but only as a writer, not a reader. As a reader I was fine with it. As a writer I was like, "I wonder if my editor would have allowed me to get away with that..." Just FYI.)

Loved it. Great characters, sweet, inspiring story.

The creepiest Dystopian I've read in a long time. Can't believe I missed this one for so long.

Haunting, with memorable characters. Love the magical realism of The Watcher's journal entries.

Such a cute, playful, heartfelt read. Loved it. Made me miss my teen adventures in Europe.

Great (free!) short story by Ness. Loved it.

A lovely, idealistic read about a future presidential election. As a teen this would have been screaming my language. As an adult, it made me nostalgic for a time when I had faith in our political process. Recommended.

Flawless survival read. Just perfect.

Had the pleasure of reading this one early. My quote: “Dark secrets, a dangerous romance, and a chilling murder mystery made HANGING BY A THREAD a California horror story I won’t soon forget.”

BUT I LOVE HIM by Amanda Grace. An intense, visceral read. Very well told, perfectly structured. Really enjoyed this one.

Fall for Anything by Courtney Summers. This was a painful read, but exceptionally well written like all of Summers' books. I would warn those who have recently lost a loved one, however, that this book might be a bit too difficult for the recently grieving.

Another beautiful read from Maggie. Prose that elevates the mundane and makes werewolf drama absolutely riveting. Loved this book!

A Need So Beautiful is a truly beautiful read. Fast paced and heart felt and just plain great.

Adorable, light (but not too light), teen crime romp. Pure fun to read.

This sequel to Aftertime kicked as much ass as the first book. Can't wait for the next installment in this series.

My last read of 2011 and a treasure of a book I will reread again and again. This is the fairy tale I always wanted to read as a child. Can't wait to read it aloud to my boys.

This was the first book I ever blurbed. They didn't use my blurb, but I will share it here: "Fairy Bad Day is Fairy Awesome Supernatural Slaying Fun." But without all capitals... It's a fun read. Cute and feisty. Like the adorable Ashby herself.

One of my top five of 2011. Swept me away in every way.

Brilliant steampunk with fairies. Lovely language. You won't be able to stop once you start. Go forth and read.

Brilliant, perfectly crafted, unflinching book. Loved every character, esp Melody.

Heartbreaking, but perfect. Will put it in my boys' hands as soon as they are old enough.
