Winters in New York City can be unfriendly with frigid winds and sudden snowstorms. I remedy the conditions by making my favorite hot, holiday drink, Glühwein. My friend Sonja gave me this version of classic German recipes - it is a great way to start a party: sweet and warm, it goes down so easily on a cold, icy night.

This cucumber salad gets its name from the apple cider vinegar. It lends a sweet and sour tang to this dish that reminds me of fresh pickles. Cucumber salad also makes a great topping for your turkey burger or salmon cakes in place of pickle relish.

Crispy breaded chicken cutlets smothered with cheese and sauce really hits the spot when you're craving Italian fare. My version is lightly cooked in olive oil instead of deep fried. The part-skim mozzarella shaves off quite a few calories and fat, making this chicken parm much healthier than the traditional version.
Iced tea is my favorite summer drink because it's refreshing without being too sweet and has plenty of antioxidants for healthy summer skin. Tuck in a sliced ripe peach or a handful of berries to get an extra serving of fruit for the day.
