@Elaine Davis have you seen these? they made me think of you!

Krylon’s Looking Glass spray paint, which dries into a mirror-like finish. First, spray the body of your plain glass lamp (or vase, knick knack – anything made out of glass can be transformed) with clean water. While the surface is wet, spray it thoroughly with Looking Glass spray paint. The water will prevent the paint from completely adhering to the surface – exactly what’s required to achieve the characteristically blotchy look of genuine mercury glass. Let the paint dry overnight, and repeat the process to the darkness of your liking. Use a burlap shade (or one made of a similarly woven natural fiber) to complete the look!
