Karey Crain I tried this, but my bags leaked even when double or triple bagged. I'd recommend using one of those FoodSaver things if you have one.

Erin Woodward thanks for the tip @Karey Crain! I do have a foodsaver. I will try that!

If you ruin a brush with dried paint, just soak it in Murphy's Oil for 24 to 48 hours and it dissolves all the paint and makes it like new

Simply rub onto greasy stains and the chalk powder will absorb the grease, making the stain easily removable by the laundry soap in the wash.

The best oven cleaner! Cover bottom of oven with baking soda, then pour vinegar so it's all wet. Let sit around 20 minutes or so then wipe all of it out with damp cloth or sponge. Leave oven door open. After drying you may see some white residue, wipe again.

Epsom Salt as Plant Fertilizer - Encourage green growth on your house plants by applying a solution of 2 tablespoons salt to 1 gallon water once a month. Magnesium and sulfur from the salt make leaves grow bushier and encourage flowering plants to bloom more often.

Kalleen Wright I took a class when I got my new sewing machine. It was so overwhelming to hear abut everything you should be doing to maintain your machine. I'm still terrified I'm going to ruin my machine because I don't care for it perfectly.

Profile picture of Erin Woodward

Erin Woodward @Kalleen Wright - My serger was recently making a scary noise so I cracked open the manual to see how to oil it. It said to oil it once a month, more if it is used frequently... I have had it for over two years and had NEVER oiled it. Oopsie!

A bundle of chalk hung in a closet will absorb extra moisture and keep clothing fresh and dry, and takes up much less room than an electric dehumidifier. Worth a try...

Cornmeal absorbs grease on light colored fabric or upholstery. Pour enough on to cover the soiled area and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Vacuum to remove the grains.

TIP FOR KEEPING BERRIES FROM GOING MOLDY!! When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted I find you can't taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft. Worth a try!

To get your drain running again (without resorting to chemicals worthy of a hazmat suit) pour ½ cup soda, then ½ cup vinegar, down a clogged drain. Cover it with a wet cloth, wait 5 minutes, uncover, and flush with steaming-hot water.
