Mark Ottens employs an amazing painting technique that accentuates intense visual rigor. These small energetic paintings possess a quick liveliness, but are contained as in a kind of tethered playfulness calling out for engagement. Often incorporating up to 60 layers of paint and varnish, Ottens' intimate works are a testament to patience and perseverance. The artist received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently resides in Wisconsin.
