how to build a willow den. this would be ideal for our backyard and we *have* a willow tree. I wonder if we could just cut down the whips in the fall and plant them? remind me in November to try (it can't hurt to try!)

I'm meeting with James, who makes these great climbing vine arbors, this week to talk about marketing. Wouldn't you want to buy one if you saw covered with beans in my yard? hmmm? will trade expertise for arbors.

I've been making yogurt the way Marisa specifies here www.foodinjars.co... a lot lately. (mine is kept warm in a big canning pot instead of a cooler; I just keep the water bath between 100-120 degrees). this time I made Greek yogurt -- by straining it -- too. super delicious.

if I had no children, I would make this upcycled tabletop. since I have them, we'll dream about making it when *they* start using the chopsaw. 2014?

Megan Lynch this is the color of my kitchen. I love it.
I've been lobbying for an outdoor kitchen for canning. mine wouldn't have so much stuff in it; and would have a camping stove for the enormous bubbling pots; but this is a nice model.

powdered sugar: don't buy it! I learned last fall the brilliant, easy way to make your own. grind in the coffee grinder & shake through a fine-mesh sieve. I keep a vanilla bean in my sugar jar, so it's all vanilla-toned & yum

disclaimer: the source seems to have disappeared. but the photo, which shows pretty clearly these people are using standard tile laying procedures to lay pennies, is enough for me. I'll blog about it if we do it... the boys would love it so!

what a great shower theme concept! I'm planning (or planning to plan) a shower for my new sister-in-law, who I don't know very well. A book theme would be a way of creating a party that has an involved planner who is not a long-time friend :) books I'd use, to start: -- Corduroy yes! -- Spaghetti Park -- Let's Make Rabbits -- Swimmy -- 10 Minutes 'til Bedtime! -- Grow Vegetable Soup other ideas?

luscious iced tea, $1.50 a half gallon: two bags Smith Teamaker 'big hibiscus,' cold water, canning lid, kitchen twine, two hours in the fridge. kids adore it, great for cocktails too

Smith Teamaker Love the photo. A little tip; if you start with boiling water, you will have a fuller extraction. From there, you can use cold water to dilute, and your batch will last longer.
love the layered look. stealing this idea.

Larissa Brown IMO, the bird should be black, though. The raven was the bird that showed the way to Iceland and in general any land nearby. Vikings would bring them on their ships. I've read they were the first to have "crows' nests."
I need new curtains. I now know I'll need some fabric markers, too. a girl in search of a good front-window poem... and one for my bathroom, too! (recommendations eagerly accepted)

this tea cozy pattern is so simple and lovely. i'm tempted just to copy-from-sight, but I think I'm going to buy the pattern because: after all: I'd want someone else to buy it if it were me! (want one, @Heather Arndt Anderson? I owe you a handmade thing... and this could be knit on the airplane next week!)
