This is based off art cloth that included gelatin plate printing, machine stitching and direct drawing with a fine tip attachment on a paint bottle.

"Scrap ART" show at SJ Museum of Quilts and Textiles includes this one by Sarah Nishiura, "Untitled #4," from 2009. Made of cotton, machine pieced, hand quilted. 70 x 56 Artist says: I made this quilt thinking about Madras plaids and how crazy and funky they are, even though in fashion they are often considered preppy and conservative. Plaid is one of the most common textile motifs across many cultures but, unlike stripes or polka dots, it exists only in human made objects, not in nature. i think i've seen a pic of this border or similar in one of my older books. i love that they left the complete piece of red behind to shadow through and then did reverse applique - that is some very fine work!
