Curiosity Object Both pieces of furniture and display windows, these lights act as small curiosity cabinets highlighting the beauty and strangeness of their subjects. When turned off, the bulb and socket disappear beneath an opaque black tinted glass. When lit, the bulb gradually reveals itself behind a soft veil, never dazzling. The base is made of blackened oak and the bell of blown glass.

A light designed from readily-available, standard parts, combined with solid black walnut and a soft, fabric cord. This project was an experiment in using pre-made parts, and the entire piece is easily disassembled/reassembled, constructed with magnets and press-fit components. The overly luminous fluorescent light is juxtaposed with polished, elegant materials to create new associations and applications for an industrial product. Walnut, aluminum, electronics, nylon cord

Hot Chocolate on a Stick, a treat as simple and sweet as the name implies. To whip up an instant mug, dip a chunk of dark, milk or vanilla-white chocolate into hot milk, stir for a minute and sip. Popbar's chocolate-bar consistency seems to blend more easily than typical powder cocoas and, most importantly, does so quickly. Add more milk to temper the sweetness, or split one between two cups for just a hint of flavor.

SEPPL is a stunning espresso machine made of wood and porcelain designed by German designer Arvid Hausser. “The qualities of porcelain like high thermal storage, neutrality in taste and an antiseptic surface are making the material ideal for the use in food context. The machine is attached on the wall. The single components are seperately affixed and completely visible. This makes the process of coffee preparation comprehensible for the user”.

The collaboration between Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay led to the founding of Raw Edges, a design studio with a clever and original portfolio. For today we chose to present their project called Hole in the Floor and consisting of a series of ingenious shelving units. Based on the idea of things unexpectedly ending (in a physical sense), the unusual furniture pieces resemble vertical drawers which were literally sliced at the bottom. The impression a viewer gets is-as the name of the project suggests- that of a hole in the floor. We not only appreciate the originality of this idea, but its simplicity and elegance as well. The shelves come in a variety of sizes and can be used in both traditional and modern interiors.

The Alpina Dolomites Lodge harmoniously integrates with the surrounding environment, offering its competences in the fields of wellness, health, fitness and beauty. A 5 star hotel that is equipped with an ample selection of activities that can satisfy both sports lovers and those looking to relax, in any season of the year. Divided in different spaces dedicated to Turkish baths (with mountain flowers or with salts from the Himalayas), saunas (from the traditional Finnish type to the more modern biosauna), pools with panoramic views, massages and a relax area with a chimney. Chick-a-Dee Smoke Detector A playful alternative to this home necessity While navigating the endless maze at the 2012 NY International Gift Fair, we came across this playful take on a home essential, the smoke detector. The Chick-a-Dee is, simply put, a smoke detector shaped like a bird; it brings a bit of life to a device designed to protect it. As the winner of the Mooi uit de brand design competition, the Chick-a-Dee previously sold in the Netherlands and has just recently been approved for sale in the U.S. The cutesy appliance draws on the American Black-capped Chicadee for its size and sound, replicating the bird's iconic "chick-a-dee-dee" call at the first sign of smoke then emiting a louder, more sustained 85 db sound as smoke thickens. We love the fresh thinking and fun approach from the multitalented Dutch artist and designer Louise van der Veld, bringing design ideation to a corner of the home where it's not normally found. Now let's just hope the batteries are easy to access for those unfortunate—and all to frequent—burned dinners. The Chick-a-Dee smoke detector is now available online in white, white with black base, pink and blue for $75.
